My 9 year old lost a baby molar last night. We still do the tooth fairy thing even though we know he knows it's a ruse.
Anyway, this morning he told me to go look under his pillow. I of course thought "Shit, I forgot to exchange the tooth for the money!!".
Under his pillow was a note.
"Dear tooth fairy, You must be busy. There is a late charge and now you owe me ten bucks".
Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

10 bucks?!
What happens if the tooth fairy forgets again? A broken wing? *pictures Meta-son as a fifties gangster, flipping a tooth on a street corner, shaking down the tooth fairy*.

Dh just negotiated him down to $6. It was hilarious. Ds started at $10, Dh at $2.
Ds said it was a molar which typically go for $5 and he wasn't going lower than $8 with the late fee.
Dh said he was willing to go up to $4 but he was lucky to be getting anything at all.
Ds said he knew that and he was a good daddy. So dh tacked on $2 for him being sweet, made it $6 and they shook hands

I think the tooth fairy should return with a story on how she usually brings money but if he could get permission from his parents that she'd be happy to deliver 10 male deer.

This is priceless. I'm glad my son didn't think of that when my husband forgot his tooth fairy duties. He still gets a dollar and is excited about that
