Can anyone recommend something decent with reasonable ink or toner or whatever?

Uses.. we have one dd in high school, a son who is 9 who will need to print things soon, and a husband who is in school and has been printing at school because our printer stinks.

We had a Kodak printer. Ink was reasonable but seemed to run out quickly. Then it started printing with lines in the page. Now it consistently tells us there is no color cartridge. We called Kodak and they replaced the ink. Umm.. no, we tried that, TWICE. So we have 3 perfectly good color ink cartridges, and can't print.

Wireless would be nice but not necessary.

All we really want is decent print quality, a copier and scanner, and ink or toner that won't be stupidly expensive.

Thank you.

We have a Brother LaserJet.

Granted I print and copy a lot due to work/invoices and SI.

There are 5 toner cartridges and they all run out at the same time...YAY! They cost $181.00 per replacement (for all 5) and usually last an average of 8 months.

Our invoices always look beautiful...it's an excellent printer I can't remember off hand what we paid for it, but I can look it up and let you know. We purchased it in 2011 and never have had a problem

Thanks DS!

180 every 8 months isn't bad at all. And I imagine we do less printing than you would with the business.

Dh had a huge project last semester that ended up being about 150 pages with pictures as well. For those big projects he takes it to an Office store anyway so they can bind it and laminate the covers etc. So we won't be printing those at home.

I'm just so sick of having to print something quick off and it never works

Meta, my S/O has a Kodak and I don't think it has worked properly since the day he bought it. Just wanted you to know you are not alone.

If you don't need colour, a laser printer is much cheaper to operate (and not that pricey to buy). We got ours at Future Shop (Fairview Mall, since you live near me). They sell one size of cartridge...but you can order a higher yield cartridge online.

We also have an HP scanner/printer/emailer etc. Silly me thought I'd use it only occasionally as I use the cheaper black print most of the time...but if you don't use the ink too often it dries up. So sometimes I do colour even when I don't really need to.

I use a Brother DW5370 or something. Brother makes 2 lines. The 2000 series tends to use consumables very quickly (1200 pages for toner, 12000 for the electronics). The 5000 series gets 3000 or 6000 pages for the toner and 25000 for the electronics. When we bought ours, I think 100 pages/month made the higher cost of the 5000 series worthwhile.

The 5000 series also does automatic dual-sided printing.

These are monochrome printers. If you need color, Xerox Phasers can print color pretty cheaply, although the electricity bill is a little higher than with other color printers.

I have an older model HP Deskjet I think... had it for years, never a problem. The Kid and I both print for school on a regular basis... FWSO sometimes.

Ink lasts a decent about of time and doesn't cost too much.

Never had an issue with it as a printer/copier. But I could never figure out the scan feature.

We have this one.

The printer itself is kind of pricey, but, it used the ink we wanted. The ink is fairly cheap. Like, $10/cartridge for black. Maybe $20 for color? I don't know, we haven't had to buy color in quite awhile. I home school the kids, so I do a lot of printing for their worksheets. Also, I'm in school and print a lot and H has to print a lot of stuff for work. We're pretty happy with the speed it goes through ink.

Also, we had to combine the office/bedroom and we wanted something that didn't look huge and office-y. This was perfect and kind of disappears.

It will all be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end

Happily remarried to a wonderful man (Aussie). I think I found the right guy and the right finger this time.
