I'm already BIG on music, but during this time it keeps my heart beating. I'm growing tired of my song list and I have THOUSANDS of songs on an external hard drive at home. Just looking for something new or something older that I might not have yet. Any and all suggestions will be reviewed. Thanks in advance!

If you don't have the Joni Mitchell catalog yet, I'd stock up on her stuff. Story of my life.

Start looking at international and independent artists. Here are some names and videos to get you started from one of my working playlists (writing something on the topic of dreams, so this set will be somewhat thematic):

Lucia - http://youtu.be/hNMmtsLx_iI

Jwaydan - http://youtu.be/Ad_eViMKuF8

Jacko Hooper (I love this man, so here's a playlist) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae78Nc9nlLk&feature=share&list=PLVLsup8dM-bnjKGeB187zlOsINl1eg4i8&index=2

Sia - http://youtu.be/RJuoTfSrve8

Lucius (AMAZING harmonies and textures) - http://youtu.be/Xmck8zg4_OY and http://youtu.be/1sHS5be0q9A

Passenger - http://youtu.be/FTStgJ77re8

Birdy - http://youtu.be/6iB5MLmmgyE

DulceSky - http://youtu.be/3Wk-oiP0N-s

No Clear Mind - http://youtu.be/o2zf28T0LFU

Lara Fabian - http://youtu.be/5TfCbiHJybI

and the woman who makes my heart skip a beat, Eivør - http://youtu.be/LpiFmZLICgM and http://youtu.be/PrvAWuGzAVs and, god, just EVERYTHING. She's marvelous.

Also check out sites like bandcamp.com or just plug your favorites into YouTube and see what happens on your sidebar. I've found more music via YouTube lately than through Pandora and Spotify combined.

I have Help Me, but I probably need more. I have a VERY open mind to music. Anything from folk, blues, jazz, metal, rock, rap, hip hop, techno, and even country

This is a good modern remake (If you like new stuff). Muse has remade Nina Simone's "Feeling Good". This song gets me through some tough days.

Google KDHX (the local alternative station) and from their website you can download any of their shows for the last 2 weeks.

They are the local Blues/Bluegrass/Ska/Indie Band/Deadhead/Brazilian/Cajun station. They also play some obscure stuff, like Central European folk music...

I particularly recommend "Nothin' But the Blues", the Sunday night show. Blues, mostly older stuff, presented by a true fan, historian, and excellent slide guitarist in the style of Tampa Red.

Personally, though, when I was in the throes of my troubles, only Classical music would work. No words to get in the way, or if there were words, they were in a language I didn't know.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

I didn't know Muse covered that song - I need to go check that out. I love Muse.

For newer stuff, I really like Imagine Dragons right now. They are starting to get overplayed here (college town) but the whole album is pretty good. I also love the Black Keys.

Older stuff - I've been listening to a ton of Paul McCartney and Wings and Mamas and the Papas. My dad taught me to sing California Dreaming and I've Just Seen a Face when I was maybe 3...so they're keeping me company this month.

Did you try Fitz and the Tantrums?

Other stuff I really really love is Reel Big Fish, and the Ska catagory of music, it's not for everyone, but man is it fun. It's like a mixture of big band, and metal.
