When I was dating DH we both had our first year with our children at their other parent's house and we were both having a very hard time with it.

DH said he would arrange the day for us, and on Christmas morning he drove us to our local dog rescue where he'd volunteered us for the morning, and the first thing he did was sit me in the rescue shelter's laundry room and release a litter of beagle puppies into the room. I laughed so hard I cried as they climbed and jumped and yipped and squirmed all over me. Their faces! It was ridiculous how cute they were! How could I be sad when these little guys were launching themselves at me?

I got mine yesterday, too. Watching my two GD, all dressed up in their beautiful Christmas dresses, dancing with abandon to the new wii dance music. OMG, it was more fun than several barrels of monkeys. They are such good little dancers, even the little one. I had a smile on my lips and tears in my eyes!

Can't say if this year is in the running yet (SO arrives on Saturday ) but in the past?

Banana #3 was supposed to be a Christmas baby but she ended up being born almost three weeks before Halloween. She was discharged from the NICU a couple weeks before Christmas. Not exactly on the day but that was a pretty good year, I'd say.

My parents surprised us all with a trip to Mexico one year. That was pretty awesome, since H and I didn't go on a honeymoon. We opted to save that money for downpayment on a house, then we were so poor for buying a house in the first year of our M that we had no hope of going on any trips anytime soon.

We all went the following summer, the only bad part was my sis was preggers so she couldn't scuba with us, and she couldn't drink with us. Otherwise it was tons of fun.

I would love to do it one more time in the next couple of years while the kids are big, and my parents can still go and do whatever they want. Dunno if we can pull it off or not.
