Thanks, Moo! I think she got the best of both of us! I know I've told you this a few
times, but she's "Moo", too! Her sig line on outgoing email is, "You've got Moo!".

I've been extremely busy dealing with more DS issues 😢 and traveling non-stop for several months, and been away from SI for a while, but glad to see the pic thread is still alive with so many new faces! Yay! So many beautiful faces!
I've done quite a bit of mushroom hunting in the last month, so I thought I would post a pic of some delicacies for y'all to drool over, lol.
Anyone else hunt morels?

PPGA, we just started hunting morels! We've yet to find any, but we just went this last weekend!
We get LOTS of chanterelles in the fall!
Those are beauts! I'm drooling and envious!

TG and HL, you both look really happy in that picture
PPGA, we get morels at our place up north, but some years are better than others. We often miss the best hunting because we're not up there during the week. Last year we found one. I was mowing the lawn, and just happened to notice it in the yard. I showed it to my brother, and the next morning he left and took it with him. Needless to say I won't be showing him if I find any this year

Thank you for sharing! You've all made me smile and feel so safe here

Wow want2help, you hunt morels, chanterelles , and raise your own chickens...you are a girl after my own heart! We had some chickens when the kiddos were little. I remember a Japanese Silky my kiddos just loved. Unfortunately, some predator got it, and the kids were devastated. 😢. If you find any morels, you must post pics!
Wifehad5, your brother stole your only morel? how dare he, lol! it just cracked me up when you wrote, "he left, and took it with him". Hope you find some more this year. Our season is over now. I must wait another 360 days, grrrrr.

PPGA, we raise chickens (my H wants to add ducks), grow our own food, and hope to add beekeeping to that very soon. All on a regular sized suburban plot of land, outside a major metropolitan area.
We also teach our DD wilderness camping, fishing, mushrooming, etc.
I will definitely post any morel pictures, feel free to message me tips on finding them anytime.
The only morels I've ever found had a similar fate as WH5... my DAD claimed them as his own (I found them growing by my grandmother's old burn pile).

Wow want2, very cool. (Tip: avoid ducks they are very nasty and messy).
Morel tips, well I'm in the South, so it may be quite different in the PNW. We start looking late march early April, when the ground temp (use a cooking thermometer) reaches 53* in the shade at 8am. Once the ground temp reaches 59* you are wasting your time - move to higher elevations.
We look in river/creek bottoms around poplars, elms, and ash trees. Or, anywhere where the ground has been disturbed in the previous year by burns, logging operations, or digging. I understand burnsites are HUGE morel sites in your area.
We also grow shiitake, Lionsmane, and chicken of the woods on logs. We have about 700 logs now!
Breathe again, morels are a highly sought after, very expensive mushroom that only grows in the Spring of the year, and usually only for about 2 weeks in any one location. They taste unlike anything you have ever tasted before, and to me, taste nothing like a mushroom. I can't even describe the taste, but it is AWESOME!
Want2help, make sure you are positive on your morel ID. There are 'false morels' and there are reports of some people dying from eating them.

Are false morels worse than loose morals?? Just wondering ...
