I've been feeling off for a couple of weeks and finally figured out it's because I'm pregnant! I still can't believe it and I'm also still not entirely sure how I feel about it, though vulnerable comes to mind. I never thought we'd be here again and I'm a bit scared (and 39!)

Thank you! I'm still having mixed feelings, our DD is 8, so there will be quite an age gap and I've been struggling with feelings of insecurity, but will get there.

Welcome to the "elderly multigravida" club.
Yeah, I was shocked when I overheard my OB dictating notes about me after our first visit. And, yes you are a member of the club. Congratulations!
My two older children were 16 and 10 when I found myself pregnant at age 40. I will tell you having a child later in life is such a different experience. I was so much more relaxed and we didn't "sweat the small stuff". It really helped that he was the most perfect and best baby , evah!
Its an adventure, hope on board and enjoy! (I finally did, after I went to therapy!)

Congratulations! A new little life--what could be better?
And don't worry about your age! You'll be fine. My mom had me when she was 42 and Dad was 50; my sisters were 14 and 18. Mother always said the same thing as SisterMilkshake, that she was so much more relaxed with me than my sisters. And they were great parents.
My sisters and I have always been close, and I'm sure your son and the new baby will be too--8 years is not such a terrible gap.

I had my little surprise at 42. My other children were 21, 17, 16, and 14 (quite a gap).
He is now a proud Uncle to my oldest sons daughter and he is a constant joy in our lives! He helps me see the beauty in the little things all over again.
Good luck and all those emotions are normal. I remember crying when I went to Babies R Us because there were too many car seat and I was so confused! When you hold that little one it will all feel right!
