They closed schools in Buffalo for wind chills below 0, not snow.
Here? All schools and the federal govt closed last night.
My chickens are not amused now that it is snowing though.

Yup, I'm in the path too.
So, the closed all of the schools last night…we haven't even seen snow yet except for a few flakes. Parents around here are ticked. They knew it wasn't supposed to start until the afternoon, so why not just send the kids to 1/2 a day and watch the forecast? We lost a day of school over literally a few flakes of snow.
I know it is better to be safe, just frustrating.

Interestingly enough, we Buffalo area folk are NOT getting the snow! It's just incredibly cold here.
When we got clobbered, though, no biggie. I always chuckle when people who have never lived here think that we must be trapped under piles of snow all winter. The snow removal was especially excellent during the recent blizzard; we just keep calm and plow on!
I was actually in DC once for a "major snow storm." I thought that meant several feet of snow and that I'd be stuck there. I think they got an inch. We drove out of it quite nicely while everyone there stayed home.

It's 36f and I'm thinking I should home school my kids so none of us have to leave the house again. I hate being cold!
I hope it's not way cold in Branson at the end of this month.

Update from Baltimore/DC: schools closed all over the state. Federal government open, though a 2-hour delay. It's now almost 1pm and the main streets are pretty good, though people are taking it slow (mainly because no one knows how to drive here, heh). Side streets are a mess, though. Some areas are more ice than snow, my house it's more snow (luckily). We got about 8 to 9".
It's bitterly cold, though. That's really what's worse - the temperatures. Ugh!
I love the thought of Arizona or New Mexico right now....

Try blowing bubbles in the below zero temps - very cool.
We've had about 6-7 inches of snow this past week and the bitter cold. No biggie, no school cancellations. Our last snowmageddon was 31 inches, just before Christmas. Schools cancel when wind chills are below -25. You never get used to that kind of cold.
