I have been a bit in the dumps the last week and decided it was time to plan vacation. I will probably try to get my kids to do something with me for a long weekend this summer. HOWEVER......it's Triple Time! I want to take my first ever solo vacation. Suggestions please!! Here's my travel preferences.

Prefer US but would go overseas (probably not Asia)

3-7 days

I dont have an unlimited budget but I don't have to camp either.

I love points of interest such as historical places. I can drive as far as most of the southeast or fly further.

I am fairly capable and independent but want to keep personal safety in mind.

Thoughts and suggestions please!

OOOOhhhh Triple that sounds like fun planning a solo trip.

I also like history, but I like the south, um I also like the wide open spaces in the west. Dude ranches are a fun thought. Island paradise isn't that how Stella got her groove back

Costa Rica is fabulous and cheaper than you would expect. They have volcanos. That actually have lava.

Lake Tahoe is fun and beautiful.

Memphis. New Orleans. Austin.... Actually, kinda smelling a road trip brewing here.

I loved my vacation in Charleston, SC a couple of years ago. Lots of Civil War history, walking tours of the historic district, a really cool cemetery. There were some panhandlers in the parks, but other than that it seemed very safe.

I just booked my train sleeper car for my first ever solo trip...booked it at midnight last night. It's been a fantasy of mine to take the train across the US, so I'm leaving California and visiting family in New York. Flying home because it is so much cheaper. Consider the train! You see a lot, socialize at mealtime, and I love sleeping on a train. I was so scared to book it, but now I'm just super excited!

I'm not sure where you're starting from...

I love history and had one of the best getaways ever to Savannah GA. The people are extremely friendly, the food is great, there are tons of things to do and I would go back in a heart beat.

Ireland, Croatia or perhaps Germany (Berlin). Pretty much anywhere in Europe has history and soooo much culture.

I'm going to the Grand Canyon this summer. I want to travel to see family by Nashville too.

Ireland is my next overseas vacation, though.

Hmmmm, maybe Canada. I don't know what they have in Canada, though. I've been to Niagra Falls, but I was very young and barely remember the time spent there.

Boston! Tons of history, great museums and super mass transit--if you stay in the city, you don't need a car.

Chicago! The museums are fabulous, and my fave is the Shedd Aquarium. Again--plenty of good mass transit so you can shuttle from the airport to downtown and not need a car.

I hear Montreal is lovely--never been, but want to go.

Such great ideas! So much to choose from! I'll check back in when I finally make a plan. For now, I have lots of research to do.

I've always wanted to go to St Augustine. Lots of history and it is warm.

And I love visiting DC because of all of the museums and monuments and the zoo.
