So my 16 year old comes up to me the other day and says, “Dad, I want you to meet somebody I met at basketball camp. She is a little younger than you but I think you two would hit it off.” Turns out it was one of the coaches that my daughter thought would be someone I would enjoy spending some time with. Now I have been pretty low key when it comes to dating for the last 6 months and I really have no interest in a blind date but hey, if my daughter thinks I may be interested in someone…I have to see who that would be. I honestly did not ask some of the obligatory, “does she have a boil on her lip” kind of questions and just decided to go with it and said ok, let’s give it a go. All my daughter said was "she is pretty tall".
Well I am at the restaurant bar when this lovely 5’11” woman enters which I knew had to be her. Long story short, we had a fabulous time and laughed throughout the entire evening. It was easy without the usual nonsense of first dates and we both agreed future time together is something we both were interested in and looked forward to…without any expectations. Perfect.
Now the one thing I have left out of the story is the one thing that my daughter left out when setting this whole thing up. This woman had lost her left leg from just below the knee in a car accident. When I got home I asked the kid why she had failed to mention this…she simply said she didn’t think it was important. She was right and that kid is turning out to be just fine.
I've wiped the shit off. It can be wiped off you know.
