I was on another forum and came up with an idea.
I have been looking for a job using Monster. I am looking for a job in the NYC area. Does anyone have any suggestions on additional job search techniques or websites?
Help, I need a job!

I like to check indeed.com for jobs.

Craigslist is also a good place to look. Many well known places use it for free job ads. Put your current state and city on the resume you submit but you don't need to put your home address.
Careerbuilder.com.

Indeed.com is an aggregator that pulls job listings from may other sites including careerbuilder, monster, individual employers, etc. I don't know about craigslist, but I'd be leery of jobs found there. You get what (they) pay for. I got a very bad lead from there. Wound up moving 1500 miles for a job that fell through when I got here.
Set up alerts on indeed--it's the best all-over job search site. And good luck.

When it comes to Craigslist, you just have to be proactive and do research. I landed a job through CL and stayed there for many years.
Job boards can charge a ton of money for ads so many well known places will go through CL since it is a very good source for applicants. The ones I applied to had links that went directly to their websites so you can see it's a legit place.
If the company puts their name and logo up, you know it's a solid place.

Simplyhired.com has a feature you can set up search terms and get an email summary of the daily and weekly job postings in those categories. Other sites probably have the same feature, I've been using that one though.
There's also jobs.com, careerbliss.com, careers.com, and LinkedIn has some job boards
Depending on what field you're looking in, it could work to think like a consumer just to find agencies, then look for job postings on those agencies websites. For exp - I was looking for case management jobs in foster care so I searched for foster care agencies in my area and I check all those agencies' websites for openings.
I also picked up a parent resource guide and went to the websites of all the agencies with ads/info in the directory.
I agree with the proceed with caution advice for Craig's List...could be legit, but also could be a scam.
Good luck! Job searching ain't for the faint of heart...says the woman who's been at it for 7 months!

I used CL for many positions within my office when I managed it. Meaning Receptionist, Medical Assistant, Coder, etc. I got tons of good applicants too.
You can post yourself too, not just look.

Do you also have a LinkedIn account? That would be a good way to start networking with past connections and make new connections as well.
Good luck in your job search.
