I haven't been to see my psychologist for several years now as things have been going well for me. I am taking the generic (changed to generic about a year ago)Effexor XR, which worked very well for me for years.

I'm currently in a funk for no good reason, which makes it worse because I KNOW that life is good, but I'm in a stupid funk. I am thinking maybe I need a medication adjustment. So I look up the number to the psychologist that I saw during the D, and find that she has retired.

THIS SUCKS! I struggled to find someone with whom I felt comfortable. I have been on ADs for 20 years and probably needed them before that. I absolutely hate the idea of trying to find a new person and go through my whole story again. And my PCP won't change medications - he wants me to do that with a specialist - which means more out of pocket expense for me.

I'm going on vacation in a week, I guess I'll just struggle through until I get back. Maybe I will feel better after that.

I'm sorry NL.

I know the feeling. My IC retired last year. I went to her, on and off for 10 yrs! I haven't looked for a new one yet, as I loved her, and don't want to start over. I get it.

Sending strength.

Oh NL I'm sorry. I would urge you to start calling and find one and make an appt. There is truly a shortage of Psych MD's in our nation, and the wait time to get in as a New Patient is months in most cases.

If your PCP won't change the medication, in the meantime, can you ask him to rewrite for the NONgeneric. Some people just don't do well on them. It may be a quick easy fix, but be prepared to pay more for it, but it would be worth it to try it for 30 days.
