1. The summertime polar vortex that makes it possible to have open windows as August approaches; I love hearing the crickets and frogs at night and the birds in the morning. I love being chilly under my comforter.
2. Kids who are as excited about school-supply shopping for me as I was about school-supply shopping for them.
3. The cute calico cat lying on my chilly toes. She's the most modest and least attention-whorish of my animals (except during parties, when she is the belle of the ball, while my clowny cat is more reticent), and I tend to take her for granted. But she always, always is by my side or at my feet in bed; the best purry hot water bottle ever.
4. The dopey (not really; he's brilliant but plays dopey for effect) canine who, in about an hour, will insist on the walk we BOTH need.
5. The former neighbor/friend who once again bailed my ass out by fixing something for me--this time the hot water heater that went kaput. He changed the thermocouple, and told me how (and when) to shop for the new one I will need soonish--and offered to install it so that I won't have to feel weird asking. I love him. He restores my faith in the goodness of others every time I encounter him.

1) my girlfriends - they are the most amazing group of women I could ask for, and lift me up no matter what.
2) music - it lifts me up even in my worst moments when the lyrics were too painful, I have such a passion for the impact and effects of song
3) camping - an escape, and even in the rough moments it reminds me that there were other annoyances to living with H prior to Dday...is it sad that I feel relief getting mad at him over the little things like doing the dishes or setting up a tent? haha
4) sunshine/nature - nothing cheers me up like waking up to a sunny day, seeing a rainbow or sometimes even a good storm
5) laughter - it can heal so many wounds even if for a few moments.

1. My kids they rock and make me smile every day.
2. My H. Strange as it may seem. He's finally getting it, totally unexpected, baby steps of course. And between the stresses, he still makes me smile every day too.
3. My mum. She moved nearby recently and, although she's blissfully unaware of our troubles, she's unwittingly a great support.
4. The beautiful place I live - on the edge of a nature reserve.
