I found out that my insurance approved my surgery as medically necessary.

I'll be getting these DDD(amn!!!)-sized boobs trimmed down to a manageable C(ool!!) size in late September. I'll be able to once again buy cute bras instead of serviceable granny bras that cost 3x what a regular store charges.

If you've had this surgery (breast reduction), can you share some tips on a speedy recovery?

I've not had the surgery, but just wanted to congratulate you!

I think the standard faster-healing rules apply: no smoking, no excessive exertion, etc.

My niece (22) had this done last summer. She is soooooo happy she did! She is a petite little thing (not quite 5 ft) and she had DD chest. Because hers was a medical surgery, she couldn't *choose* her new size. They had to take out a certain *poundage*. I think she ended up closer to a B cup and looks wonderful.

It was painful and the recovery was like 6 wks or so. But so worth it. I can ask if she has any tips!

My MIL did this around the same time we got married, so 22+ years ago. She never regretted it. The pain from healing from surgery was nothing compared to the neck/back pain and pinched nerve issues she was suffering from for the years leading up to it.

She ran a stained glass shop/studio at the time, and she only took a full week off of work, and was right back at it after that.

I did this years ago (went from an H to a C) and it was the best thing I ever did.

Off the top of my head - get your underarms waxed. You won't be able to lift them to shave. Try on and buy some comfy sports bras. The one the hospital gives you will probably not be that comfortable and it will be all nasty and gross after you get blood on it.

Sleeping will be difficult. If possible, sleep sitting in a recliner. If you don't have a recliner then putting a roll of paper towels in the back of your pajama top will keep you from rolling from one side to the other.

Taking off the dressings the day after surgery was difficult and there was no way I could have done it myself. Have someone available to help you do that. Have some good scissors handy. Also have someone who will be willing to wash your hair in the sink.

The first time you shower you will probably want to pass out at the thought of drying yourself off. Try not to get your hair wet because this will make drying yourself off impossible because the water will be running down while you are afraid to touch ANYTHING and it will take you an hour because you won't be able to lift your arms or bend over to wrap a towel around your head(ask me how I know this ). It is also not a bad idea to have some of those shower wipes handy.

I remember being surprised that reaching across (as in wiping off a table or something) was actually more painful than reaching up. Bending over will not happen.

Everything madseason said with the addition of keep up on your pain meds, you don't want to let the pain get to be too much to handle. I had mine done from an F to a B 11 years ago and I've never regretted it.

I have a long list of instructions that I intend to follow to the letter!

I will not be lifting, bending, stretching or otherwise pulling my wounds until given clearance to do so.

SiS is really great about looking after me when I'm not feeling well, so I think he'll be up to the task.

I am soo looking forward to getting rid of this weight on my neck, back and shoulders. Not to mention getting rid of the rashes, grooves in my shoulders, etc.

When I had my wisdom teeth out the oral surgeon recommended vitamin C, and bromelain (supplement) or pineapple (juice or fruit), to help reduce inflammation and speed healing the week before and after the surgery.

Update!

I had the surgery yesterday and while I'm sore and swollen, I'm a happy camper!

I haven't lifted anything heavier than a beverage and am trying to follow the post-op directions to the letter.

I go in today for my first post-op appointment to get the bandages off. I'll get my first view today. I feel really good (soreness aside) and...I can see my feet!!

Congrats!!!! I had implants put in back in 2008 (stupid stupid stupid thing to do) and just had them out this past April. So happy!! Keep on the pain meds and the no lifting, and you'll feel better in no time. Frozen peas in the bag work really well as a nice compress

I had it done 4 years ago. Best thing I have ever did! I had a reduction and a lift so as a bonus, they are where they are supposed to be!

You will get a "beautiful" bra to wear for a few weeks. It looks like something from the 1800's! Just remember to take it easy! I wasn't in a lot of pain unless I tried to do too much.

Definitely well worth it!! Congrats and good luck! I sang "we are off to see the doctor, the wonderful doctor of boobs!" all the way there, I was so excited to be rid of those monsters!
