Oh HELL to the NO!
That is total BS. Sounds like they're making excuses because they got caught. I would call them back and tell them they have until 5 PM TOMORROW to remove their trash or you will get the police involved.
And then DO IT.
Do the best they can? BULLSH!T. They had time to bring it; they can make time to come get it or the cops can make them do it.
Nope truthsetmefree - time to play hardball with them. They probably had the elder of the elderly call just SO you wouldn't get tough with them. Put their feet to the fire, give them a DEADLINE with a time, and if it's not removed, then call the police. Period.

Yah Call the police, or take the shit out, and put in her front yard yourself.
This pisses me off to no end. I live down the road from an elementary school and almost every single weekend there is some redneck there dumping shit in the dumpster there, and if the dumpster is full they will dump their shit next to it on the ground.
The school does nothing about it, which angers me too, since it's my tax dollars paying for it at the end of the day anyway.

If the dumpster has a lid I'd put a lock on it after the neighbor gets their stuff out of it. I hear this happens to people all the time. I've even heard of people getting a dumpster delivered while they were at work, only to come home to find the dumpster literally full of trash at 6:00 pm.

Ok...another update
I came in today and all the extra trash is gone! Woo-hoo!!!
I still have mixed feelings about the cause...but I am immensely relieved that it is now gone!!! I was actually afraid that just the identifying items might be the only thing gone. Or worse, that if it was indeed contractors that there could be MORE in there. But as of today, only the legitimate items are there...and the dumpster will be gone at the end of the week. (This has all certainly lit a fire under me to push forward with even more determination - so maybe it has served its own purpose.) And admittedly, the anger has felt much better than just the grief or worse, the numbness that has been consuming me for the majority of the time.
Still have great disappointment in so much of humanity. I try to remind myself of all the good people - just like those of you that have taken the time to respond to me even on this rather trivial topic. I so want to just focus on this - that there are still so many good, decent people in the world. But maybe sometime we do just need to blow off all the negative steam that comes from the assholes. Thank you all for allowing/helping me to do that!

So glad the "extra" stuff is gone...but not surprised it happened.
The HS my kids went to was in a very nice residential area, and the school had a dumpster tucked back in a zigzag driveway, not easily seen.
BUT...every kid at the school knew it was there, and there was so much stuff dumped there that they put in a camera, had someone go through the stuff dumped with addresses on it...and SEVERAL people got calls from the HS to come get their trash and quit dumping there.
The funny thing was... 90% of the people were PARENTS, not the kids!!!

This happened to me just last month. I evicted a bunch of tweakers from my brother's apartment building he owns (he's in a nursing home and I'm selling the building).
I got a dumpster and arranged for labor to load it with the evicted peoples' junk. It was delivered on Tuesday and the labor showed up on Wednesday -- and the dumpster was full up to the top already. With stuff that didn't come from our property.
This wasn't the tweakers' doing. It was neighbors who did this.
So glad to be getting out of the landlord business.
Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

Don't buy the contractor crap.
Reputable contractors include dump costs in their estimate. They don't dump items in some random dumpster.
This is called "Theft of Services".
Glad it worked out for you.
