A 'cabinet' in RI and part of SE Massachusetts is a 'milk shake' in most of the US.

If you order a milk shake in RI, you get milk and flavoring. Well, you used to get milk and flavoring. The language might have gotten corrupted over the years.

Alas, the RI accent and driving practices remain.

Josiep, which pizza? My NJ friends swear by Manco & Mancos (since a family feud took "Mack" out of the name), but I've just never warmed to it.

Now, that same friend introduced me to the north Jersey version of a "sloppy joe," which is turkey, slaw and Russian on rye instead of the ground beef and sauce I grew up with, and I am a total convert to that!

I'll scarf some extra Jersey produce in your name as the season ends. If only the Texas G2G was a little earlier, I'd bring some down to you.

ETA: if inconnu attends, I'll smuggle down some powdered jelly donuts!

I'm a Philly transplant to the West Coast.

I miss cheesesteaks, soft pretzels from the strange little old man & his shopping cart, Moroni the Water Ice man, and tomato pie.

One of my friends is also from Philadelphia, she was there in June and brought me back a tomato pie. OMG, heavenly!

When my dad died, the first thing I did when I got off the plane was demand my family take me to get a cheesesteak. Yeah, I'm super sad that my dad is dead, but I'm not and cheesesteaks are a comfort food!

Oh and pizza. I miss East Coast pizza. I hate the crap they pass off as pizza here. No soul.

I saw the comment about Jersey tomatoes. Hell yes, miss those, too. When my dad and I would go down the shore, we'd stop and pick up a box on our way. We'd eat them like apples. Anyone remember those ridiculous Pace salsa ads about other salsa bring made in New Jersey? What idiots! Jersey tomatoes are divine!

I could honestly go on for hours about how much I miss Philly food. But I've found a place that I can buy scrapple, and when I go to Portland, there's a cheesesteak place that actually flies in their rolls from Philly. And bonus, they bring in Tastycakes as well.

But yeah, I miss the food. I keep thinking I should make my own tomato pie, but I really need the Water from Philly to make it taste right.

Sigh. I'm hungry now.

Adlham, was the tomato pie Corropolese?

I once read a story about a place on the west coast that flew out Tastykakes from Philly. I understand flying the Amorosos to keep them fresh, but they could deliver a Tastykake out there by covered wagon and it would still be the same consistency when it finally arrived.

My mom grew up in CT but went to college in MA. I remember her saying frappe sometimes instead of milk shake. It was probably whenever she was talking about college memories.

How did you know? It was so good! I hated sharing it with my family. I could have cheerfully eaten the whole thing by myself.

I'm not a huge Tastykakes fan, but it's always fun to see them.

Corropolese is the best! There are several branches now, but a friend of mine works in Norristown where the original bakery is, and she got me hooked.

I wonder if they'd ship to me and how much it would cost. It's really sad how much I will fork out for my stomach lol

Moved from Texas to the midwest over 20 years ago - but I still miss tex-me and brisket. Whenever we go back to visit family we have to go to Garcia's for tex-me and Salt Lick for barbecue. And What-A-Burger is also on our must eat list.

I also miss really good curries. There are just too many good curry houses in my home town. IN particular there's a Nepalese restaurant run by retired ghurka soldiers. It's soooooo good

I miss fresh seafood so much. Grew up way north in the PNW. Also, the best cup of coffee I had was in Mexico. We're doing it wrong here in the states.

So far, everyone seems to be in agreement that you can't leave St. Louis without trying toasted ravioli! I'll have to Google that.

I'll have to pay more attention to Mexican coffee. My teenage son is a hot dog aficionado and says that the best hot dog he ever ate was in Mexico. It was an oversized beef dog wrapped in thick bacon with a butter-grilled bun. He speaks of it reverently.

Stone crab claws from my time of living in Florida, and anything from a now-closed seafood restaurant named Leverocks, also in Fl.

Partner is Greek, I am British ... I miss yorkshire pud and bacon and egg sarnies when I am there.

When I am here I miss the souvlaki and pork and celery casserole like a devil

I’m from Maine and live here currently, but spent some time in Texas when I was younger. I mostly miss authentic Mexican food. It’s pretty limited up here.

I sold Del's for part of one summer. I didn't make much money.

RI - the US's smallest state, the first to offer true religious freedom (even welcoming atheists), and the US's longest coastline....

A few years later I sold Good Humors out of Philadelphia. I made a lot of money - $150-$200/week (a new Chevy was probably $2,000-$2,500).

I sort of got into birch beer and roast beef sandwiches late at night in South Philly, but I've forgotten the name of the restaurant/bar.
