I have been getting a LOT of weird, unknown texts lately.

“WhatsRight, many have lost 60 lbs in just 4 weeks...”

“WhatsRight, keep your man”up” all night with this...”

“WhatsRight, Shark tank judges endorsed this new...”

I remember a few months ago I was doing some searching about keto diets as well as the product Goli.

Did these people get my info? Maybe I started to place an order, but changed my mind when it came time to pay...after I gave my name and phone#?

Another one says, WhatsRight, due to monetary laws, you are owed $1,760...

Or, “WhatsRight, your order has arrived. Just go to this link to complete the process”.

They always give a link.

In the first, I would open the text...but not the link.

Now I’m afraid to even open the text.

Am I too late...already screwed???

It’s odd that it is not all about the same product.

What should I do?

Now that I think of it, I got a phone message regarding my social security info. I ignored that because I do know that Social Security Admin doesn’t call people.

I’m such a schmuck!

Block them.

Someone sold your number. It happens. It will suck for a while, but then they will dwindle off.

Sometimes I will respond in a very inappropriate foul manner. They typically block you when you do that.

I was going to do that - block them - but it’s a different number every time.

I have received texts like that. I just block and delete.

I get non stop phone calls that are really disturbing. Automated messages saying I have a warrant out or something similar and that I'll be arrested if I dont press one.

Also block those.

My dad's phone went off once while she was at school. I answered and a man who didbt speak english tried to start that whole you own money we will send the sheriff shit. I yelled at him, no screamed at him that this was my kids phone and he was just a f'ing scammer who should rot un hell.

He hung up. Never called back.

Yes, opening the text is safe. Just don't click on any links that may be in the text - that's a bad move.

Does opening the text itself show the person who sent it that the line/number is active?

I don't bother blocking, because the number is often spoofed. On occasion, I've gotten a "call back" from someone who is upset my number just called to spam them, and I have to explain about spoofing. The texts, I just ignore/delete. You're fine if you don't click through the links.

The calls, if I happen to answer one, just tell them yes please have me served because that gives me 30 days to answer, or just mail the paperwork and I'll look into it. They're looking for people to panic and pay things they shouldn't, so I just laugh at them and give them "yeah right" voice.

About a decade ago I was pleasantly surprised to discover I had extended family all over Nigeria.

They seemed to have done quite well but were experiencing a spell of extremely bad luck. I got several posts telling me of how my oil-rich uncle had died in a plane-crash and I was entitled to several millions. I only had to send a measly thousand or so for handling and legal fees…

I get why you are laughing...even I wouldn’t believe that one.

But sometimes I’m just not sure. Especially about the one that says my package has arrived, but I need to click on some site to finalize something.

Especially if I have actually ordered something.
