How to politely tell people to F off vent

DragnHeart posted 9/9/2019 16:44 PM

Ugh! What is wrong with people???

Why is it everyone seems to think that's its perfectly ok to feed horses that aren't theirs?

Would you go up to a stranger's house and feed their dog? Cat? Walk right in and feed their fish?

Then why the fuck is it ok to feed horses?!?

I just had a "neighbour" stop by to tell me one of the horses is limping and that he often feeds them apples.

Yes one of the boys over extended his knee yesterday when he got spooked. The owners were here when it happened. Went home, got meds and came back and treated him. Tonight they will do a treatment, give pain meds and wrap it. They will be back tomorrow for the same. Hes being looked after and ya ok thanks for letting me know something I already know.

But dammit dont feed the fucking horses!

One is on a special diet.

One tends to choke easy and needs throat massage when it happens so he doesn't DIE!

No one could possibly know which one of eight horses the above applies to....

AND....

To many apples can cause an episode of colic.

I am doing up signs now to politely ask people not to feed the horses but in all honesty i want to post a billboard that says "Dont feed the fucking horses they aren't yours!"

Ugh....ok vent done.

I think the signs are a great idea! Iíd never go onto someone elseís property to look at their animals, without permission. Thatís just me though.

Signs will go up tomorrow. It's dark now.

The horse owner us livid. She wanted to go door to door where these neighbours live around the bend (since I dont know where exactly they live) and explain personally to everyone why not to feed the horses.

I'm now on scours watch. If any of the horses show signs I'm to medicate immediately. So much for sleep. Dammit and all because people just dont have any common sense.

DragnHeart I vote for the vulgar one right off the bat. Simple, effective and true!! Also threaten them with a lawsuit if ANYTHING happens to the horses.

JMO YMMV

We have signs up already. They are no trespassing signs with that area at the bottom to add more. Some we wrote no hunting. Others we wrote that we dont own cows. And the far ones say no feeding the animals.

I guess I need to be more specific.

So "Do not feed the Horses Anything" signs will go up today.

The owner said she will hand out vet Bill's to anyone she catches feeding the horses.

Maybe the sign should say, No trespassers. trespassers will be prosecuted.

I believe al the signs I bought do say that.

Problem is that they dont have to actually trespass to feed the horses. They throw apples over the fence from the road at the front and they can come right up to the fence at the side.

We will have to look into putting up new fence to keep the horses away from road access or section off the back to keep them away from the front completely. Which cuts down on pasture big time. Something I shouldn't have to do.

First off, totally in agreement that people should have more sense and that you shouldn't have to fucking explain why a person who keeps horses for a living knows better than someone who just likes to watch the pretty horsies eat the yummy apples. They're your horses. End of discussion.

That being said, we live in a world where so many people think they're a special snowflake exception, and that as long as they mean well, they can't do any harm. For that reason, I think you'll get better results if you give a brief explanation of the danger on the sign. "Horses on medical diet, condition makes one of them prone to sudden choking, PLEASE do not feed them ANYTHING. Help us keep them safe!"

I think they believe they're like a benevolent Grandma, sneaking the horses a harmless treat when mean old Mommy has her back turned. But most grandmas (not all, alas) would not do the same to a diabetic kid. Putting them on "your team" may work better than reminding them that they're intruders. Even though they obviously are.

That's a great suggestion. Thank you.

My anger at people's sense of entitlement has me seeing red so it's nice to get a calmer perspective.

I'll add to the signs.

I thought the horses would cause less grief than the cattle we had here but man its all the same and it's got nothing to do with the animals and everything to do with people.

We've been harassed that the horses NEED hay, a bale feeder, water and shelter in the front field so everyone can see it. Nope thank you very much, all they NEED is in the back by the gate behind the house where it's all easily accessible for me.

When we had cattle here people would harass them. I warned people many times that no fence will hold back a stampede if they piss off the steers. That didn't stop the people from being jerks. If they want to Run With The Bulls they can go to ...Spain? Wherever they do that crap. NOT my property!
