Ditto worn....I have a lovely Kimber 45 and it is, in fact, a thing of beauty. We have a 40 but to me it doesnít come close to the 45.

.40 gives you more cartridges in the magazine. And if the world as we know it ends, .40 ammunition will be more readily available.

9mm works fine for me.

As far as a daily carry, I trust a .38 snub-nose. I am not the most meticulous of cleaners (ask my wife) and I do not trust my ability to keep a semi-automatic pistol up to snuff.

The first question, it seems to me, is not what caliber, but what kind of pistol?

9mm? Yes, more readily available.

But .40 vs .45? .45ACP will be a lot easier to find.

HUM - I already have three 9mms (a S&W, a Glock 19, and a Sig Sauer P938) as well as a couple other smaller caliber guns (.25 and .22).

I wanted something with more power, but would also fit my small hands.

ETA: I actually ended up getting 2 guns.
The Sig P320 and a Ruger LCP II .380 just for shitz and giggles.

You're gonna like that SIG. Which version did you get? The Compact, Carry or the full size?

.380 is fun round.

Love it! I was going to ask why we had to decide...just get both. You can never have too many.

My ultimate favorite is the Springfield .45 1911. Of all the guns I have shot and owned, every time I handle my 1911, I feel like I am home again. A few years ago, I bought a Taurus 9mm. I actually made noises when I first ďfondledĒ it, it fit so well in my hands. Weirdly, I couldnít hit the broad side of a barn with that one. Everyone else could, but sadly, not me.
Today, I am pickup my new 1911 and going to the range. I canít wait!!!!!
Oddly enough, men seem surprised that a woman likes a .45. Apparently, they feel a .38 is a better fit for a woman. I have yet to find a .38 that I like.

Because a .45 is a manly round; a .38 is a girly round.

Just kidding! Don't shoot me!

That is actually exactly the running sentiment. When we were shopping for handguns, my ex kept getting steered towards the .38. Now, admittedly, when she fired my .45 at the range, she said it hurt her wrists, whereas her .40 doesn't, I know plenty of women who prefer a full sized hand cannon. .45 has the power, the mass, and the velocity to drop anyone in their tracks, one shot. Also, even if you miss, the sound of a 1911 being fired, or even just the sound of chambering a round, well, those are both significant deterrents right there.

I wonít shoot you. Lol! Iím used to marching to my own beat at this stage of the game.
We just got back from the range. LOVED having a 1911 in my hands again. Talk about feeling like Iím home again! Lol. Didnít do too bad on my first time out and a brand new tight gun. Stayed within 2Ē at 25 yards. So not a fan of shooting outside in the Midwest this time of year, though. I may have to look in to the indoor ranges.
Yup. I will love my Springfield .45 forever! I even went to the museum while travelling to Cooperstown. What a hoot.

Sorry for the delay in responding!

I got the compact version of the Sig. It just felt better (to me) in hand.

I got out to the range over the weekend and put a couple hundred rounds in both guns. I have no regrets!!

WornDown posted 12/18/2019 11:44 AM

Nice.

Yeah, the Compact felt weird in my hand with my pinky hang off into space. The larger Carry was perfect.

If you had smaller hands, I can see where the Compact would feel better.

Congrats and enjoy your Christmas presents!
