There was a recent article in our paper about rentals and dogs. Paraphrasing - it is an insurance issue. The landlord's insurance regulates what dogs are excluded by the policy. If they don't abide their insurance is void.

Best of luck! I wonder if a private duplex would have more flexibility than a complex.

Mastiffs are not *currently* on any restricted breed lists even for insurance companies. She's not a bull-mastiff (bully breeds often are).

I'm going with anything that will take them - house, apartment, duplex, whatever. I've offered double deposit and I always carry my own insurance that covers my liability as well. I also have recs for the dogs from current landlord and vet. Both dogs are AKC good dog certified.

Have you looked into renting a house? My house rental in Phoenix advertised 'any size dog'. Turns out, the house was in the 'hood.
I had my mastiff and my corgi there. The floors were all tile and it had a huge, walled-in backyard. I miss it.

However, here in Houston there is an apartment complex on my block that advertised 'any size dog'. I left mine with the X because the mastiff was too old to make the 1000 mile trip and I didn't want to take the corgi away from her.

Do you currently rent or own? If you have a strong landlord reference about the fact that your dog won't damage the apartment, and you rent independently (rather than in a large, corporate building), you might be able to offer a larger deposit or increased rent to cover the additional costs of insurance or whatever for the owner.

I know your pain. We are running into the same because we have four dogs...Shih Tzu's
They are adults and don't have potty issues, but no one wants to rent to someone with four dogs. I know there are "bad renters" and "bad owners" but just b/c there are some doesn't mean all of us are. I hope you find something soon, hurt!
