I'm not talking about using toothpaste with *whitening* capabilities. I'm talking about the *gel in the mouthguard placed in the mouth for 5-10 minutes*.
Opinions?
(I may go MIA for a bit, got a busy day, but I wanted to throw this out there for thoughts.....)

I wouldn't do this without first discussing with his/her dentist.
Just my opinion.

I originally joined SI as a way to help my best friends find ways of coping with infidelity, but now infidelity has touched my family much closer to home.

So here's the *more* behind my question....
DS came back from his dad's with a kit for teeth-whitening in his bag. I was like "huh?" DS doesn't drink coffee, grape juice, red wine, or eat tooth-staining foods. I didn't get out my microscope....but his teeth look *fine* to me. Fine enough that, IMO, his gums don't need to have 20-30 minutes/wk exposure to a bleach product.
After I saw the kit I told DS that I didn't think using it was a good idea at this point in time and that if he was worried about his teeth that he should start by brushing them 2 or 3 times a day first.
My stbx is very *vain* and I put this out there in an effort to get a touch-point because I'm now very sensitized to vanity-type issues and don't always trust my instincts in this area because of it.

I agree with you. Those products can be very bad for your gums. If hr is not brushing and flossing properly what is the point?

My dentist doesn't recommend any whitening products, from what they use to the supermarket whitening toothpastes.
She said teeth can become sensitive afterwards, it is a risk you take.

What Sultan is vain??? I can't believe that..... 
No way. If he wants his teeth to be whiter, he needs to up his brushing. If he brushes from 4-6 times a day he will see a big difference. If he wants them fake white, you know how some stars get theirs to look almost bluish then I would only allow him to use a mixture of peroxide, and baking soda (that's what most bleaching products are) and he will most likely be so disgusted by the taste it will end it.
Oh and you can tell him this story....
One of my MA's that worked for me decided she wanted her teeth really white for a wedding she was going to be in. She used real bleach. Called me in a panic about an hour later. She had all of her gums, roof of her mouth, and tissue under her tongue slough off. Her teeth were also so sensitive she couldn't eat, and could only drink through a straw. I couldn't stop laughing when she called me, but wow. Really?

STRAIGHT bleach??? OMG ... no words.
The obsession of many folks with this come from the photoshopping of celebrities mouths to look perfect on TV guide and magazines.
Maybe we could all just get over this?
