I've never used one... it kinda scares me.

Anyone here use one and have success and tips?

my DD loves it. Me? Not so much. I've got a nose thing (mental) and try not to put anything other than my elbow up there. The one time I tried it, it felt like I was drowning.

Mr Unfound tried it once, but it only seemed to make his sinus issue worse. I think he had a sinus infection though.

I thought it might be a good attention getter!

I don't know what's going on with my sinuses... It could be an infection (no fever)... could be just congestion... could be a migraine...

All I know is I've been downing sudefed, ibuprofen and antihistamines with no relief...

It hurts straight across my eyes... including my cheeks...

Yes! Have used one for years if I get a cold.

Honestly, it takes some practice to get the angle of your head correct so the liquid does not go down your throat.

I started off with sea salt (??, I think that is what was recommended) but then eventually just went to regular low sodium salt as that is what I had on hand.

Again, some practice with the temp and strength as too strong can cause discomfort.

The blowing of the liquid can get messy, but in the end I get relief from it.

It also seems to me that I either have really small nostrils, or the spout is rather large, but again...practice.

My sister uses one of the blue baby booger bulbs (say that 3 times!!) that she had laying around from years ago. Works just fine for her!

Good Luck.

This weird weather has brought havoc on everyone's sinuses here at Casa De Unfound.

I'd check with a dr before you use it, just in case.

Unfound... I was considering the Dr as this is lather, rinse, repeat of last week...

It went away and came back.

Annie... thanks for the input.

I use the Neti squeeze bottle. I'd drown myself with the pot.

This is what I tell my patients:

1) use only distilled water (no amoebas!)

2) mix in saline packet

3) lean over bathroom sink

4) breathe through your mouth

5) gently squeeze the bottle in one nostril; you should feel a slight fullness in your face

6) continue squeezing until the water starts to run out your other nostril

7) hold your breath and then blow out your nose (both sides)

8) switch sides and repeat; continuing alternating until you run out of saline water

Caveats:

Do NOT heat the water in the microwave; I tried that once wow that hurt

If you squeeze too hard your sinus will hurt like when you were a kid and jumped into the pool without holding your nose... Do you remember that?!?

Use a towel to blow into; or you'll go throw 30 kleenexs

Good luck!!

The doctors around here (high pollen twice a year, fall and spring) LOVE the Neti pot and are very vocal in the recommending. Also, the steroid nasal spray (prescription.)

I have used it. It is weird? you don't drown, but if I think too much about it, I panic like I might drown?

It is kinda gross, but soothing and it seems to help.

Hope you feel better!!!

Btw, if you buy a pot, they usually come with premixed packets to get you started. Lukewarm water is best.

Will all this work relieve the congestion/pressure I'm feeling?

If it does... I'll do it! Because I'd do just about anything to make this pain go away... (short of cutting off my head)

I love it!!! Since I was brave and sick enough to try it (other than sedation I was miserable lol). I have not had a sinus infection. When I feel a cold coming on I start using it and I haven't been seriously sick since.

I admit I was frightened to try it but it was well worth it. Now I think it feels good and is a go to when I get sick.

LISTEN TO Dr. PJ's "Use only distilled water" instruction. In certain parts, amoebas etc. can cause really REALLY bad havoc.

I have used it and my doctor recommends it. It does eventually relieves the congestion some because it gets the pollen or whatever is irritating your sinuses out.

I was told to use it twice a day until I got better. I mostly use it in the shower.

If I catch it in the early stages it really helps. If I wait until I am already fully congested it makes the pressure worse.

I mostly use it during allergy season as prevention. I usually don't catch the colds early enough.

I had never heard the "use only distilled water" warning, though now that you all have said it, it makes perfect sense to me. I haven't had any problems, but in the future, I will definitely use.. well, probably not distilled, but WebMD says previously boiled works as well.

I don't use the neti pot on a regular basis - only when I'm having issues with my sinuses that nothing else has helped. When I do use it, though, I find the easiest thing to do is to just use it while I'm getting my shower. (Just noticed that courageous said that too!)

I have bad sinus issues and love mine. However, I don't use the pot, I use the squeeze bottle to make sure that it gets all of the way up there! It's super gross, but it gives me great relief when my sinuses are killing me.

Make sure that you used distilled water or use their pre-mixed packets (or make your own). There have been a few cases (very few) of people getting bacterial infections from using untreated tap water.

I have distilled water in the house because FWSO uses it in his CPAP machine.... so that's not an issue.

I like the "use in the shower" suggestion because I know I'd get it all over the sink and me.

I am assuming the sell the squeeze bottles in the same spot as the pots...

I've taken a bunch of OTC's and my nose is finally running (I know that sounds like a bad thing... but it's not)
