If you were stuck on an island or something similar and could only listen to 5 songs for the rest of your life, what would they be?

I asked this of a musician I chatted with on OLD, and I like one of his songs so much that I think it may have made my top 5 list!

Pass, since you're a musician, I'm particularly happy that you responded to this! I haven't heard some of these, so I'm excited to add some wonderful songs to my head!

The song that the OLD musician recommended was "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, though he preferred the Jeff Buckley version. I don't know how I didn't know this song (!!!) but I've since spent hours listening to different versions on youtube!

phmh, "Hallelujah" is one of my all time favorite songs…don't care who sings it.

Love is not a victory march

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

^^^No truer words were ever written.

I have very eclectic taste in music, I scrolled through my list and picked some fav's:

Pharrell Williams "Happy", it makes my kids get up and dance.

One I never tire of: "Ain't No Sunshine", Bill Withers.

Fun. has several: "Carry On", "Some Nights", "Why Am I the One"

Bright Eyes, "First Day of My Life"

Led Zeppelin, "Good Times Bad Times"

The Lumineers, "Ho Hey"

The Dirty Heads, "Lay Me Down" (about a green eyed girl )

Passenger, "Let Her Go"

Matt Nathanson, "Mission Bells"

The Guess Who, "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature"

Franz Ferdinand, "No You Girls"

Rihanna, "Pon de Replay" (can't help but dance to this one.)

Bad Company, "Shooting Star"

Ingrid Michaelson, "Soldier" (Great NB song!)

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (IZ) version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

Emeli Sande "Wonder", "Next to Me"

Becky Jones, "You're Going to Miss Me When I'm Gone".

I could never pick 5 songs, I always have music going, and generally LOUDLY in my car. I'm the Mom where the kids are always saying, "MOM! Turn down the music!!"

Leonard Cohen is such a beautiful poet. Love his stuff. Listen to the version of KD Lang singing Hallelujah. It is pretty amazing.

Saltwater Joys by Buddy Wassiname and the other fellas is one of my all time favorites.

He Stopped Loving her Today by George Jones (Allan Jackson does a version too)

Fishin in the Dark by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf (takes me back to my teens everytime)

The Colour Purple soundtrack

Phmh, the fact that I'm a musician, could also mean that I have wacked-out tastes. As a matter of fact, I do - so you may not love my choices. Case in point, I love a lot of Leonard Cohen's songs, but absolutely hate most of his arrangements. His songs are WAY better when someone else does them. And that's when I usually mortally offend Cohen fans!

Thanks for continuing to post more songs. I will listen to them all!

I never have food cravings, but I frequently have music cravings where I'll have to listen to a song RIGHT NOW, like 20 times.

I used to listen to headphones while running, and I did an entire 1/2 marathon hitting repeat on "Poison" by Alice Cooper. (There might be something wrong with me.)

My 5 will change depending on when you ask me, but some in contention:

1. "Anymore" by Travis Tritt

2. "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" - Otis Redding

3. "Ulysses" by Mason Jennings (or maybe a different Mason Jennings song)

4. "Petite Marie" or "Samedi Soir sur la Terre" by Francis Cabrel (or possibly "Les Passantes" by Brassens -- only one French song)

5. Beethoven Symphony #7, but if that violates the rules, then "More than Words" by Extreme

Music has been a deep part of me since before I could walk. Like many things with Cancers music for me is ever changing and evolving and calls me back to old favorites and pushes me forward to find new sounds and words that resonate. I could never pick just 5 songs.

Some may find this ridiculous but when I found out that xWH had dedicated and shared music with OW that I had dedicated and shared with him, it was one of the deepest betrayals he ever could have done. Music is very personal and important to me.

1. Everbody's talkin' by Harry Nilsson

2. Into the Mystic by Van Morrison

3. My Lover by Melissa Etheridge

4. The House That Built Me by Miranda Lambert

5. Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues by Elvis Presley

That would be my list right now in this moment. I'm a Cancer though and the tide will ebb and flow and I will have a new list in just that amount of time.

I was driving home from my fund raising event tonight and realized I didn't have any Johnny Cash on my list.

To paraphrase Jaws, I'm going to need a bigger list!

I think my favorite Johnny Cash song is "Sunday Morning Coming Down"

Keep these coming -- you guys are great and my next rainy day at home will be spent adding new songs to my repertoire via your suggestions and youtube!
