A New Jersey mother is accused of smothering her toddler son because she saw him as an impediment to the extramarital affair she was having.
On Tuesday, 41-year-old Heather Reynolds appeared before a Camden County judge for a detention hearing. She is charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of methamphetamine and hindering apprehension in connection with the May 2018 death of her son, Axel
Text messages recovered from her phone showed Reynolds and a man had been having an affair while her husband was working out of state, Assistant Prosecutor Peter Gallagher alleged in court
“A review of the text messages between the defendant and her boyfriend from the previous night reveal that the defendant was becoming frustrated by the boyfriend’s apparent lack of interest,” Gallagher said. “And witnesses also told detectives that the defendant had expressed the sentiment that her toddler son … was an obstacle to her relationship with her boyfriend.”

My heart breaks with news like this. So many senseless murders for the affair partner.
It also scares me that someone could be this selfish that a child is an obstacle.

I read this a few days ago and got sick to my stomach. Aside from the infidelity factor, children are not disposable! Susan Smith years ago, Scott Peterson, Chris Watts...no one and nothing should come before your children. Nada.

My thoughts exactly. I really hope they have the death penalty in her state. I could care less about the cheating at this point. Her son deserves justice.

I will never understand how or why a cheating spouse would choose to kill their own children. For what? The POS they are banging on the side. There is no one or nothing that could ever be a reason to murder your child. Then give up custody and walk away, or rather run, to the slime bag you're cheating with. Children should in no way pay the price, especially one as great as their lives, because mommy or daddy is fucking someone and they have become an inconvenience.
I hope there is a special, agonizingly horrific place in hell for these monsters. The whole stinking, murderous lot of them.
I've said it before and will again. Infidelity is no joke. It's no teenage dream. It's not fun and games. It is destructive on so many levels and can turn dangerous and cost innocents their lives. May that baby rest in peace and may his mother rot in hell.
A man or woman telling the truth doesn't mind being questioned.

Unfortunately it has taken a year for charges. The father died 6 months after the son was killed. It is unknown if he knew what she did at this time.
