Want2babettrme,
JJCT will put you on the maybe list and that'll automatically get you on the PM list. More info coming everyone's way soon. Hope to see you there.

Ok everybody the PMs with the hotel info are in the electronic mails. Even as we speak they are whizzing through the tangled skein of the interwebs finding their way to each and everyone of you on the list!
Huzzah! isn't technology exciting and fascinating? What will those brainiac scientist come up with next? The scamps!
If by some inexplicable happenstance any of you fail to receive the email (it's probably just jammed up, the interwebs is a series of tubes you know) please PM me and let me know. Our crackerjack IT department (consisting of me and WOES and Rigby the dog) will snap into action to rectify the situation post haste!
Carry on,

I have never attended a get together but this sounds promising. Anyone know if this is the weekend for the OU-Texas football game? Put me down as a maybe.

Turns out my interweb tube was clogged by all this pesky copper. Fixing that right away!
PM received, working out possible room-sharing (I call JJ and his harmonica first!), and then booking shortly.
ETA: Jeaniegirl - looks like the Red River Rivalry is the weekend before. So, which side are you on?

Just saw this thread. I won't be attending but I do live in the Dallas area. Just a suggestion...but why don't you also look for a hotel in an area that has mass transportation to Fair Park? Perhaps a hotel in or around West End? The DART passes through there, and the new DART line connecting downtown with DFW airport will be up and running by then.
The hotels already suggested are a bit far from where the State Fair will be, no? Just thinking of logistics getting to and fro..

MOS, I'm an alumni of one school but have a home in both states. Not to happy with the OU coach right now ... so probably root for Bevo this year.

Hey everybody,
Just wanted to throw out a quick idea and see what everyone's thoughts on it might be.
I was, just out of curiosity, checking into the possibility of chartering a minibus to take the whole group of us the fairgrounds on sat the 18th. Dropping us off in the morning and picking us back up later that evening. Thought it might make everything just that much easier and fun. And I would be happy to make the arrangements if it's something everyone was on board with.
Just doing some preliminary research it looks like we could probably get one for roughly (again a very rough estimate) $30 a person if we end up with a group of about 30 people.
I thought I'd see if any of you all are interested in the idea. But we would have to decide pretty soon as that is a TCU game day and the buses are probably gonna get booked up pretty fast.
Let me know what you all think.

I love the idea of a bus - I am willing to pitch in a little extra to "make it so"...

You can upgrade me from a "maybe" to a "probably" for this G2G.
Still working out the fine details.
Regarding the bus.... $30 x 30 people sounds like a lot to me, but I've never arranged anything like that so what do I know. I'm wondering how many folks will have driven to the G2G? (ie- who will have cars and can help tote the rest of us who won't?)

Regarding the bus...
I am almost certain we will have enough people with cars for us to simply carpool to the fair if that is why everyone would prefer. However, in the interest of easily keeping the group all together, avoiding traffic and parking issues and bearing in mind that state fairs and beer kind of go hand in hand... I just figured a mini bus might be a good idea.
I agree though that it is more expensive than I had anticipated. Of the three bus charter companies I have tried this far; one did not return my calls. One, due to high demand that weekend, would only charter a bus for the entire day. Meaning that the bus and driver would sit at the fair waiting for us at a cost of about $1450 (assuming 10 hours at the fair.). The third, dropping us off in the morning then returning to pick us up in the evening, wants $850. Assuming 30 people choose the bus option that comes to $28.33 a person.
I would be willing to contribute more than that personally but I can't afford to float the whole cost so I would be concerned about booking it without commitment from at least 10-15 people. Got 5 so far counting me and WOES.
Anyone else? Chime in soon.

Waves Hi to everybody - I've been MIA from the board for a while and glad to have stumbled across this post!!!
I'd love to join y'all for this, so put me down as a yes, but a maybe - lol.
Some of you guys are FB friends w/me and know I'm dealing w/a pretty serious health issue right now. And, as much as I love me a Fletcher's Corny Dog from the State Fair, not certain that that is "doable" for me at the moment, but I'd love to be included in any dinner G2G's, etc. It's been such a long time since I've seen the likes of Inconnu, JJ, Woundedb2, Traicionada, etc., and I'd love to meet MH & DS, as well as the rest of the gang.
I'll make it a point to check back here more often for updates!!

Truthseekholly, I really hope we can meet up at some point during the g2g. And I hope you know that some of us will make an extra special effort to make that happen.
As far as the minibus idea goes, I'd rather drive my own vehicle to the State Fair, in case I don't want to stay there as long as the main group does. I can be a party-pooper like that, sometimes.

I'm all about the magic bus idea. Let everyone be safe to indulge should they choose without getting behind a wheel. I'll pay my way, and if it's close, I may be willing to pick up other's share. I don't care if we're going across the state or across the street - if anyone wants to drink, no driving
