I used to love watching WWE. Mick Foley as Mankind and Dude love... It's just entertaining, or was I guess. I don't follow it anymore.

WWE - no interest in seeing in on TV.

Saw it live once though with some friends. There is something wildly enjoyable about cheering your brains out with a bunch of buddies over a fight that is obviously fake (painfully fake when seen live).

Truthfully, I'd probably have the opposite problem. The sleaze factor would curtail my enjoyment and I'd look for a hole to crawl into as soon as it was over. Some things work better in fantasy than reality.

Exactly. Whenever I imagine it (which is not very often, honestly) I always go back to the Seinfeld scene here:

As a former independent pro wrestler of 12+ years, I will tell you that it is pre-determined...but that's not the same thing as fake.

There's an art and grace to being able to make it look like you hit someone without actually doing it....and people screw it up on both sides. Some wrestlers are very 'soft' but can make it look real, some wrestlers just punch you in the damned face for real....which usually looks MORE fake, because the person getting hit can't 'sell' it because they're seeing stars. Some of the worst hits I ever received looked like absolute garbage on tape....to my utter dismay.

Yes, a marriage is a team, and all money should be shared money, but money used for gambling should be taken seriously and agreed upon between the marriage partners. It should be looked at as a waste of money. And if you happen to win, great.

There are a lot of comments I wanted to quote, but we are on a new page so it gets too difficult.

My concern with Vegas isn't about having different likes and not being compatible. I feel uncomfortable taking this kind of money and using family funds for it.

Our money is joint, we both work hard and we both enjoy having fun. When I do gamble we go together and he will hit the cigar bar and have a few beers with friends or something...funny enough, the bar tab has many times been higer than the gambling losses

But we agree on how much to spend and when it's gone, it's gone. If I hit I return any monies taken and play with the rest. If I hit big, I leave.

Incredibly fake. I think on TV the camera's are positioned just so and the wrestlers are aware of them or something.

We weren't ringside, but we were maybe three rows back. The punches didn't just whiff, they weren’t even close! Could clearly see at least 6 inches of space between fist and face. The lifts/throws they can't fake obviously, but everything else was just plain ridiculous.

Was fun as hell to be there though!

[Edit]

In respect to the pro wrestler above -- the wrestlers are incredible actors. The fights are not real 'fights' but the entertainment value was definitely there at least for me when I was there in person. The atmosphere was great.

S'all good. I look at it the same way I look at any other live non-sport entertainment: suspension of disbelief.

Those three words make the magic happen.

That makes sense, kayfabe and all that… Did you improv the fights as you went, or was there choreography in advance?

Do you know in advance which wrestlers are going to punch you for real? Or do you get surprised?

Yep. Always wondered how they protect themselves from some of the doozies… Getting thrown off the top of a steel cage - how do you make sure you don't get a concussion?! Getting thrown through a table - is it a really flimsy table or something, to minimize potential injuries, or are the wrestlers just insanely tough?

Thanks guys

The ex just started my boys on wrestling, and they've been recording it here at my house, and they are loving it (sigh). They think the fights are cool, even knowing it's fake, but I don't think they are old to enjoy the "smack talking" aspect quite yet, as evidenced by their fast-forwarding straight to the fights, lol.

Maybe it's cause I'm a chick? But I just can't seem to enjoy people getting hurt as entertainment. I don't even like sports where there is so much opportunity for people to get hurt, like football.

I love me a good fictional show or movie, and combat improv was fun in high school and college, but are my boys really gonna enjoy this stuff all their life??

Like MMA fighting. Why do you guys dig other dudes getting hurt?!?

You're the man Ascendent, and "former pro wrestler" would peak my interest on a dating site, but to actually sit there and watch a wrestling match? Nah, not for me

But woman aren't really supposed to enjoy it, right? They are just supposed to wear tight clothes and carry around the "number" cards for what round it is, right?

Depends upon the experience level of the participants. The less experience you are, the more you tend to plan. After a few years, you generally plan an 'open', a 'finish', and a few 'spots', and you improv the rest.

Do you know in advance which wrestlers are going to punch you for real? Or do you get surprised?

Well, if you've worked with them before, you know ahead of time that the guy 'works stiff'. That kind of stuff gets around in the community of locker rooms. But if it's someone you've never met, you have no idea until that first punch or kick comes in. Usually if someone hits you too hard, you just tell them to lighten up....if they hit you hard again, then you tell them 'receipt' and you f***ing mug them the first chance you get, usually right in the face. That usually fixes that problem.Yep.

Always wondered how they protect themselves from some of the doozies… Getting thrown off the top of a steel cage - how do you make sure you don't get a concussion?! Getting thrown through a table - is it a really flimsy table or something, to minimize potential injuries, or are the wrestlers just insanely tough?

So, a little of both. We usually buy our tables, chairs, tacks, whatever, from Home Depot like anyone else. We usually remove the extra supports from the tables, but that's about it. The tables don't hurt when they break, 'cuz they give...it's when they DON'T break that they hurt.

As far as other 'stunts': It depends. If a guy falls 40 feet off a ledge, it's probably gimmicked. But if he jumps off the top rope to a table on the outside...well, there're just not a whole lot of ways to fake that, because there're too many variables at play. It just hurts. Chairs hurt, guardrails hurt.

Awesome, thank you for answering my questions, Ascendant!

Should add… Just watching week after week, you see injuries, so you know not all of it is fake. But some of the more "common" stunts like getting thrown through a table, etc… It was driving me nuts to figure out if the wrestlers were just that accustomed to it… Wow. Knowing what you just told me now, wrestling is definitely an art!

Older kids, house and maybe not lazy, but still very entitled. I work 8-10 hours a day and then take care of a huge amount of the chores around the house/yard. WW sleeps in almost every day because she is not feeling well and is routinely going on little trips to get away for the day/week. I haven't had time for a vacation in over two years. She spends at least 10k more than I make every year. I understand it's our money, but she treats it like it is all hers to spend as she wants. I sacrifice getting what I want because it's not in the budget. She just finished spending over 75k on remodelling and is upset that she didn't get everything she wanted done so is pushing for more money. Yes there is still money in the bank, but that was supposed to be set aside so I didn't have to work until I die. The remodel budget was basically an extortion (I'm divorcing you or) before I found out about her EA. So yes money and the way she spends it is a trigger subject for me.

I like what you said ButteryFlyGirl.

HeartFullOfHoles I feel your pain.

I did the yardwork, the vacuuming the dishes, the laundry. Think of a chore... I did it. I'ld have her clothes set out and folded / ironed for her for the next day. I did the cooking. I did the grocery shopping. I even brought her a glass of water each night before bed.

Yea, I didn't stand up for myself back then. That was my issue. Will I let that crap happen again. No!

But at the same time she then went to OM and said what a horrible H I was and I didn't care and was lazy and all this bull.

Add to this the money post I talked about earlier, and yea, spending is a touchy subject for me too. Could write an epic rant here.

Woosah. Woooosaaah.

That was then. This is now. Sorry for the rant.

Question:

Why would a man not want to have intercourse with his partner but possibly do "everything" else?

Doesn't make sense to me. I always thought coitus was the "main event" for a guy.

Video games… How much is considered a good amount of time to play, and how much is too much? And do you like it when your partner joins in, or do you prefer video games as solo, unwind time?

Whatever you have there's a website dedicated to the worship of it.

I've never seen a man naked without wanting to laugh out loud at the absurdity of it. Don't get me wrong - I love it. All of it. All shapes and sizes. Love it. It's still downright hilarious.

My H tells me he doesn't feel a difference in pre-baby to post-baby sex. But come on, the biggest thing in there before was rather small (not trying to insult, just relative), and then I got a 10lb baby through there. Is he lying?

Depends on what type of game it is. Some games you can just hop in and play. 30 minutes and you've had 2-3 matches from start to finish. Other games 30 minutes is just prep time to actually 'do' something in the game. When I was in the depths of my gaming addiction I played 5-6 nights a week for 4-6 hours at a clip. The kids would go to bed and I'd play until I was falling asleep in the chair. Since I quit I've promised myself no more MMORPGs (World of Warcraft, etc.) as they suck me in and I can't get back out.

And do you like it when your partner joins in, or do you prefer video games as solo, unwind time?

I wouldn't mind playing with my wife but she hates the things so I can't really comment on this.

Do men ever fall head over heels in love?

Do you think silver-gray hair on a woman is unattractive?

I started going gray at 25 and I'm tired of dying my hair.

My face looks really young and I'm thinking of just letting my gray grow out (hair is long) but don't want to turn hubby off.
