Using a checkbook at the grocery store might be a bit old fashioned, but pretty much everyone I know still writes checks for something.

The basic computer calculators lack the ease and functionality of the basic office calculator, certainly not a replacement.

And hot rollers are out of style? I have two sets. Given one was my moms from the 70s, but the other set is from this decade. Ok, and a gift from my grandmother. Maybe they are old school, but I like them too

I will say I like the rolly whiteout because it goes on smooth and is already dry. You just have to go over things a bit more.

I've always hated touching newspapers so I'm happy with the online version.

- We still have our land line phone because I hate talking on cell phones.

- I still write checks at the liquor store which is normally packed and I get a lot of sighing and from the people in line

- SI writes checks too for any expenses. I hate going into Office Depot and handing over a check that says SURVIVINGINFIDELITY.COM and the cashier looking up at me

The government entities around here are stuck in the last century, so, if you are a person who *only* uses plastic, you have a problem paying what you owe them. I write checks for water, taxes, permits, etc. because they refuse to let me get my credit card points for paying those bills big or small (and I don't carry that much cash!).

Waxed paper is another of those things I wouldn't think of as being "old school". I never use plastic wrap in the microwave, just a lid or waxed paper. Thanks for the idea of parchment paper. I agree - that would work well or better for some things.

One of my friends just found out how inconvenient her new digital land line is when the storm hit and her power was out for a while. And I dislike having municipal water until the power is out! (I'm old school that way too.)

I laughed as I read this because I used a calculator today and I looked up a friend's number in my phone book. I also have a landline.

My dayplanner, which I call 'my life' is in my purse at all times. My kids have told me repeatedly that I can use my phone for scheduling, lists, work stuff. I just can't get away from the pen and paper. I need to be able to write my lists and cross things off them.

THIS!! It just isn't the same on any kind of device. It doesn't smell like a book, or feel like a book..it's just not a book dammit. I like books.

OK - I don't have a landline. I haven't used a typewriter or whiteout in at least 10 years. I had to look high and low for my checkbook the other day, and I finally broke down and bought some stamps for the OCCASIONAL time I need one.

But I do love my big number calculator and the feel and smell of a paper book. My eyes get damn tired from looking at a computer screen all day, and reading an actual paper book is almost relaxing for me.

Anyone still use an old rectangle, silver Zippo lighter? You know the type you had to fill with lighter fluid and add flint?

I am not a smoker but my dad was. I just loved the smell of those lighters (weirdo-me). Anytime I would see one, I had to flip it open and sniff. Wow - I guess that makes me an old-school huffer??

I'm an accountant,and I use a calculator that uses a paper tape. I just can't use my computer for that.

I have an abacus on my bookshelf as a joke. It's beside my magic 8 ball, which I have been known to consult when people ask me stupid questions.

I also have a typewriter that is at least 25 years old. I'm a notary, so I use it fairly often for that stuff.

Zippo lighters are classic, American made and built with a lifetime guarantee. (Don't smoke, but support the concept and got tired of never having a match or bic lighter)

I think too many things are plastic and disposable, I am trying to replace them with classic built to last items. It is not always easy. I got rid of my typewriter years ago. Wish I had not.

Old school..... I love old school...

I miss the old school games.. Like Donkey Kong, Burger Time, ect that you could only go play at 7-11.

I miss the old school play grounds with the big ass metal slide that would burn your legs in summer, and the long chain swings.

I miss 4 square, dodge ball, and kick ball.

I loved the land line

I loved the prices for everything

I miss the candy we use to buy, sixlet, rainbow gum, jolly rancher sticks, pop rocks, Charleston chews,banana flips...

I love all of those things and wish they were back.

EvenKeel, I have a Zippo. It's not the classic silver but still an original. Have the flints and fluid too, which is kinda ironic since not long after getting the refills, H and I switched to vaping...

One thing about using flints though, you were always hoping you didn't drop them and if you did, you were hoping you'd find them.

I'm another one who likes actual books over the e-readers. Given the choice, I'll take the physical book.

and maps. like, actual maps. We got one out of our entire state when hubby was stopped at a light. DD took a picture of him looking at it, posted it on FB and said, "Dad - kicking it old school."

Oh, I agree with you all on so many of these!

Land-lining it here, too; first, cell reception's kinda crappy at our house, and second, if you have a 90 minute call catching up with an old friend you haven't spoken with in 6 months, that cell phone gets HOT. (Not ergonomic to hold, either!)

My real old-school thing is a preference for library CARD CATALOGUES. Seriously. I used to find interesting things to check out that I never would have were it not for flipping through the card catalogue on my way to whatever I was actually looking up.

I strongly prefer hard-copy books and such for research as I am a speed reader and can fly through a book looking for a word or term, etc., SO much faster than trying to do so online. Plus it's easier to navigate back and forth from page to page reliably.

Edited here to add I totally agree w/rachelc on the MAPS....can't stand the little keyhole view you get with GPS and such. I do like the turn-by-turn help on the highway for long drives (>200 miles) but if I had to take just one or the other, I'd bring the map!

Despite their various shortcomings, I still do and always have liked vinyl (LPs). Say what you will about warping and sound quality and storage space, the fact is that you can get that sound out of an LP despite scratches and dirt that would make a CD completely useless. (Just keep taping pennies onto the arm )

I don't like Windows 8 and all this "app crap"...so I guess that makes me old school with Windows, too.

MAPS!! Even using GPS or Google maps and directions, I consult a current, physical map to verify the digital version is correct; or, just go with a map, period!

I love maps.

We had a lady come into town for a meeting. She is from Minnesota. We are on an island where the streets are windy and often change names halfway through.

Very confusing.

Anyway, she lands at the Major Airport on the mainland. They give her a car with a GPS programmed for the USA only.

She had to find her way back to the airport to get another car.

Even with the Canadian GPS, after getting off the ferry, she took a wrong turn somewhere in the farm valley between here and the terminal, and got hopelessly lost wandering down country roads and into suburban arroyos that infest the area between here and there.

If she had had a proper map it wouldn't have been an issue.

I do not trust GPS. Period.
