Jodie Arias Trial

I just read that the judge is allowing a lesser charge of manslaughter. I am suddenly skeered.... flashbacks of a certain trial in Florida... :(

The reason for the FL verdict was that there WERE no options other than first-degree murder.

Well, that and that there was not a defendant who talked and talked and talked and talked. (Lied and lied and lied and lied.)

Or such overwhelming evidence of premeditation. And violence sufficient to kill the victim 3x over. Leaving TONS of evidence.

And a confession of said killing.

I'm not concerned.

Especially not after hearing Juan Martinez's closing arguments.

He's a maestro.

There is no comparison to Francine Hughes. There was no domestic violence in this case. It was a defense that took over 4 years to cook up. First JA was nowhere near Mesa. Then there were ninjas. And only THEN did she cook up with self-defense defense.

The only violence was inflicted by the personality-disordered monster who's now on trial for her life.

Did they have a sexual relationship? Yes. Was it a bit kinky? IMO, nah, not really. She recorded the victim in conversations she steered to the sordid. The mean, cruel text message used to define the victim as a batterer? God knows what triggered that (I suspect a manipulation involving pregnancy and, possibly, abortion)---but having lived with a personality-disordered monster for...well, ALL of my life (different men at different time), I can ASSURE you that their skills at button-pushing are astounding. (And yes, they DO tend to record their victims at their worst, the better to prove their craziness; just ask my husband---it was one of his favorite post d-day tricks.)

No. I'm not concerned. That the jury is being presented with options is positive. It will underline, for them, that the defendant did NOT commit second-degree murder. She did NOT commit manslaughter.

She committed murder in the first degree.

The jury will be making a well-informed, educated decision.

They've been attentive. They've been non-sequestered. They've been rapt. They've posed intelligent questions.

They can be trusted to make a reasoned decision---even if they have more than one option.

Any worries I had were rapidly dissipated by the tone and content of Juan Martinez's statement.

THAT is how it should be done.

(And it's not his last bite at the apple. The DT will have their say tomorrow, and if there's time, JM will have the final statement. If there's not time, he will have the weekend to formulate his one-two punch.)

I think my favorite part of Mr. Martinez's closing argument was when he said something to the effect of Alyce LaViolette was able to travel to the past and read Travis's mind for the true meaning of his words and the feelings behind his text message to Jodi. Loved it!

I really liked the part where he said Jodi loved and respected Travis. Yeah, respected so much she shot him. Loved him so much she cut his throat. Juan, you're my hero.

I am finishing up his closing argument right now. He has had a lot of shining moments, and great one liners. My favorite one is when he said:

"The new approach to finding out someone is a pedophile: jump in the sack with them!"

Juan Martinez was brilliant.

I especially loved how he brought in how dispicable it was tha JA called TA a pedophile. And how ALV lied about it to boost JA's credibility. And how there was NO evidence ANYWHERE to substantiate that horrible, ugly, hateful lie.

Then when he quoted TA's own words, "You (Jodi Arias) are the worst thing that has ever happened to me."

No truer words have ever been spoken.

-----------------------------------------------

I also agree. She will be convicted of 1st degree murder.

I do not see the similarities in the FL case. I think the state in the FL case over charged. They did not have sufficiennt evidence for a conviction of 1st degree murder.

I just turned on the trial and I heard Nurmi saying that Jodi did not mention a specific Walmart for returning the gas cans.... I am on a time crunch and have to go to work, but I thought she specifically said she returned it to the same Walmart? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

When they start saying things like, "she was so smart....if she was going to kill TA, she would have brought a bigger gun, she would have worn gloves, she would have blah, blah, blah"......fu*kity blah..... = DESPERATE!

I am on a bit of delay so I haven't heard that part yet.

But if he said that, HER GOOSE IS COOKED.

What an idiot. She most definately specified which Walmart.

Nurmi, the reason Jodi didn't try to kill TA right away is because she wanted to give him a false sense of security with some kinky sex and nude photography. She didn't kill him while he slept because she wanted him to see her as she shot, stabbed and slashed.

I am going to have to go back tonight and check out her Jurors' questions again.... will the jury be allowed to review the prior testimony through court transcripts or the video? I just don't see how they can recall everything that has happened over the last 55+ days... and I think tactics like "she didn't specify which Walmart" is just a way to confuse the jury even more.

Nurmi is such a perv, of course he would put up those neekid photos. :P

I feel Jodie didn't kill him right away because she wanted to have "deviant" sex with him at least one more time and show him what he would be giving up if he went to Mexico with the new person he was interested in. She wanted to give him a chance to take her to Mexico and give him one last chance to commit to her. If he didn't, he was dead. 'Cause if crazy bitch can't have him, no one can! imo

He is trying to show there was chaos in their relationship. A month before the sex tape, he was saying he was afraid of Jodi, and then they have phone sex a month later. Chaos!
