One of the gynecologists I work with was lamenting this new trend recently. She said that more and more of her patients are asking for recommendations for plastic surgeons for labiaplasty. She is so dismayed by it that she will only discourage them, unless of course there is an actual physical anomaly that needs to be corrected. It is a very sad, and definitely related to widespread porn in our society. Fully nude strip clubs are also the norm in my area, and are considered a normal social gathering place for some people, so I'm sure that contributes also.

Mylar, did she say WHY these women want this done? I'm just curious.

One of my friends got the "vaginal rejuvenation" thing done.....

I couldn't stop crossing my legs and squeezing them together when she told me about it.

She said she'd do it again and liked the results.......

Told her I couldn't go that in a million years, even if mine fell out or something.....

She said she always felt like she wasn't "tight" enough" and was always self conscious about it etc. I should add that she's got some body issues and is pretty heavy....

So, they did something where they made her v-jay narrower...she started telling me the specifics, but I was too freaked out..,,it involved scissors and scalpels, etitches etc....

This is just another form of body modificaton. I'm very curious if this is something that was started here because it was evolved from something most tortureous and barberic.

Stay with me. In certain countries (parts of Africa/Middle East) there are proceedures which have been in practice for many, many, many years. These practices modify the girl (they start right before puberty and the child has no say in it) in which the clitoris is cut off; so the female receives no pleasure, or the vaginal opening is made, I kid you not, the size of a pencil eraser. The "resizing"procedure is often repeated after marriage, after births of children and practicality whenever her husband requests it so that she's "tighter". And yes, they are ripped open during intercourse and they endure the modification again.

The "lucky" ones get actual sutures while the not so lucky receive no antiseptic or numbing medicine and thorns are used. I promise this is true. Now, bear in mind not all husbands are demanding this of their wives in these countries but there are still enough requesting it in these heavily saturated male-dominated societies that sadly these archaic operations are continuing to be performed.

Somehow this came to our shores and was turned into a fad. One could speculate as to how, but I clearly remember seeing the labiplasty being performed years ago on Dr 90210. There was a doctor on the show which specialized in it. Perhaps he was one of many who brought the practice to the Western world but sold it to *us* as cosmetic and *necessary*.

I mean, look at where tattoos and piercings originated. Now practically everyone (including myself) have them.Not everything can be blamed on porn, I'm sorry it just can't. You see it more in porn because, well, not everyone is walking around naked.

These fads and trends, a lot of times, originate from a much more historic stand point and eventually caught on. Circumcision had its biblical origins for not only hygeine but the law. Now most people get it done on their son cause his dad did and its more aestheiclly pleasing to enough people that it continues to be performed and I'm not knocking it either.

I mean, face lifts. 20 years ago or more, a lot of people would scoff at the very idea of getting it done. However upthread face-lift is okay, vagina trimming bad. People thought the same about boob jobs but nowadays a lot of women even before pregnancy are planning on getting the Olsen Twins lifted and life pumped back into them.

There is nothing wrong, IMHO, if a person wants a boob job, a penis pump, a nut bra, tummy tuck, butt implants, rhinoplasty, etc. Who cares? I mean, really? I'm sure the douchie kids in that doc making cracks were selected specifically because they would say stupid shit on camera. Most teenage boys are happy to just have a vagina in their presence and yes being on camera or around peers they're going to sound stupid and douchie.

If a girl goes to her mom and says, "Hey ma, I wanna get my beef curtains trimmed" the mom's job is to tell her daughter about loving herself, body differences, that whomever loves her won't care if she's tucked in neat and pretty or hanging low. The kid can't go to the doc underage and get it done the parents have that valuable interim to help educate her.

Personally, I don't understand it at all.

I think it's a complete waste of money - money I, for one, do not have, nor will I have in the near future. And if I did have it, I'd definitely put it to better use than this.

From the viewpoint of necessity vs vanity:

I Googled images of Labiaplasty and, quite frankly, I can understand why some women may choose this surgery, one reason being due to excessive exterior protrusion (I'm thinking in terms of hygiene/sexual pleasure), another reason being congenital.

it is every individuals right to do whatever the hell they want to do with their own bodies...frankly, I could not give a rats ass what they do. And if there is a medical need for such a surgery, by all means, it most certainly should be corrected.

My concern is that women feel the need to do such things to their bodies for no reason other than to 'look' a certain way that they 'think' they should look. And yes, I believe that need is perpetuated due to their exposure to porn, and the fact that consciously, or subconsciously they think they need to 'compete' with the porn stars in vying for the affections of their men. JMO.

PPGA, I get what you're saying, I do. There's still a fair amount of females out there, myself included, who have viewed porn on several different occasions and can tell you matter-of-factly that they'll pass on the fake bake, the lumpy boob jobs, the bleached anal fissures and the "blow outs".
