Hmmmm...that does look like a Blacksnake Hilton. But unless there is a good supply of amphibians, small reptiles, or mammals in the fountain, he's going to move on to eat. Depending on when his last meal was, that could be a couple of weeks. Worst case scenario is when the nights get cold, he'll want to move somewhere warm. Unless of course, the fountain is heated. Just move some stones around and disturb him in general, he'll leave.

Ack.....neverrrrrr! It's too beautiful.

I'll just take it off your hands. After all, what are friends for?

It's not heated...that's one thing I've got in my favor

I'm going to get a long metal pole and give it to MH to knock the rocks around and then I'll hand him the machete and a big bag

Lies...come on up and get that fountain!!

DS can't wait until Feb 11! Of course, the next year is the year of the Horse. Probably won't fit in the fountain.

Aww, come on, if he's not doing harm and he's eating rodents, what's the problem? He'll hide a lot, you'll see him once in a while and you can have an uneasy truce. He doesn't want to bite you or even get close to you. He also doesn't want to get close to your dogs, which could easily eat him. Once he eats your mouse and rat vermin, he'll leave for greener pastures.

Your fountain is lovely and if I were a snake, I'd totally love to live there! Please don't machete him though! He's really not going to hurt you.

we back up to woods and sometimes on a nice sunny day, I'll see a snake on our back patio - I know enjoying the warmth of the rocks. It does slightly freak me out though, but I've learned to quickly get a camera and leave it alone. I have noticed that we have had less of a mouse problem in the last year : )

We also see groundhogs (nasty creatures... thinking about doing trap and release), foxes, turtles, and gd deer all the time. I've given a bow hunter permission to hunt on my property, but they multiply faster. Thinking about a bb gun...

My former neighbor in Tucson had a black snake living in her front yard--it was freaking her out. I managed to talk her into leaving it alone--live and let live. Call me the Snake-host Whisperer

I guess I'll have to come back to TX to have a talk...

Aw DS, he's really doing you a favor being there. I miss the black snake that used to live in my garage - I never had a mouse while he was there. Sometimes he would crawl outside and lay up on the branches of an adjacent butterfly bush to sun himself and even let me stroke his back. I lit into my neighbor one day because she killed a black snake and then called me up to ask what to do with it. Really, they are very GOOD to have around. Honest!

Be careful what you wish for the most - you may get it.

What is it with all you snake charmers!?!

I'm trying to figure out a way to leave the house in the morning for my walk without seeing him

Sad...PLEASE, PLEASE come back and work your magic. Tell him to leave and go somewhere else where he's appreciated
