New Yankee Candles for Men

Now this is a rather interesting, yet doomed to fail, idea.

Candles for men.

Scents, you may ask? Ah, they are all designed to not require the surrender of one's man card:

Riding Mower and 2 x 4 are just two of the wonderful scents the man in your life can indulge in.

Riding Mower: "Hot sun. Cool breeze. And the intensely summery scent of freshly cut grass."

2 x 4: "The warm, unmistakable scent of freshly planed wood and sawdust evokes a sense of confidence and quality."

And who could forget?:

First Down: "This combination of orange, patchouli, vetiver, and leather is as exciting as game day."

What's next--Yankee Candles for dogs? I'd rather like the copywriting account on that one.

How about Stable Relationship: a complex scent of hay, lumber and natural animal effluvia combine for a true down-to-earth experience for your dogs. Notes of clover, cat and machinery interweave with the base fragrance to form a delightful nose.

Ok, I read that as "New YORK Yankee Candles for Men" which would be a whole different set of smells. Everything from stale beer, hot dogs and peanuts to chewing tobacco, Icy Hot, and sweat socks.

Is this for real?

I'm all over the 2x4. It is one of my favorite smells. Although I have a lot of favorite smells.

I'm not sure how into riding mower I would be. I'm on a riding mower all day long and I doubt they got the smell right. But I do like that smell too.

I'd settle for them to stop discontinuing and then bringing back as a "special" and then discontinuing yet *again* the only scent I ever liked - Greenhouse.

I buy the wild berry thing or the apple-ish ones. The dog farts require some form of alternative ambient smell than "Something crawled into that things ass and died" or "the maple sausages I cooked for breakfast" and the candles work fine. I don't understand the point of sawdust candles. Those are for starting fires. Wax + sawdust = firestarter.

I still don't know what patchouli is. Someone has explained it to me before after reading about it in a Penny Arcade comic but I forgot.

Patchouli is what the smelly hippies use to mask their hideous smell because they don't believe in deodorant cuz it is made by corporations or something.

I got excited here for a second, thinking this was somehting about traditional lighting on The New Yankee Workshop. Sorta channeled House their, thinking of morons with power tools in the dark.

Your mileage may vary... in accordance with the prophecy.

Patchouli smells *exactly* like potting soil.

The "cut lumber" smell I can go with. I love that smell.

I don't get it. I thought it had been long established that men like things with the scent of food. Like men prefer women's perfume with a base of vanilla or honey or citrus rather than a bse of flowers.

In my experience the only time men have ever commented on the scent of a candle in my company, said candle was of the "Fresh Baked Bread" or "Cookie" variety. So I kinda figured the Man Candle was a matter of whatever their mom used to bake.

Circe, the vanilla and (especially) sugar cookie are by far my favorite scents.

Some (SOME) of the "ocean breeze" kind of scents are appealing too.

But sugar cookie wins the prize.
