Not my odor! And this story is kind of gross so this is your warning!
DD4 had a serious bout of gastroenteritis the last 2 days. It got so bad that we were in the ER last night until 3:30 in the morning because she was so dehydrated. Tuesday it all came out the top end. Yesterday it was the other end...and it wasn't pretty. She was sleeping on the couch and the diarrhea just flowed right out. There was so much and it was so liquidy...gah!
So I cleaned the cushions and the rug with hot soapy water, use the Little Green, vinegar and water, Lysol, Febreeze, and baking soda paste. It still smells. The cushions are outside airing out now. Any other ideas?

Pet odor remover products. The kind that remove cat urine in particular should be able to handle it.

If you know anyone who has or sells Norwex, get some of their Sportzyme or Odor Eliminator...both work great!

Poor kiddo...
The Natures Miracle dog stuff will probably do the trick. Have someone else smell it too. Sometimes it gets stuck in our noses, and we think we smell it, but no one else can.
Make sure you didn't miss a spot too. My Dane frequently had GI upset, and one time I cleaned it all up, and couldn't get the smell out. Rewashed the rug and floor where is was still stunk. well there was a spot, that somehow was just under the couch cover on the floor.

Reek out which you can buy from sports stores works on the worst odors imaginable. My SO plays lacrosse and his gloves are enough to make you vomit. I spray this stuff in them and it takes care of the smell.

I would get a black light to make sure you got all the spots. Sell them on Amazon to detect pet mishaps. Just don't go into your ds's bathroom without taking some cleansing breaths beforhand

When the baby had GI stuff going on and leaked all over the carpet (wool-not washable) I used the pet odor eliminator from the cat. It worked! Make sure you get all of it otherwise it does keep on stinking.

Definitely Nature's Miracle--it really does work.
Saturate the fabric--then blot, and let air-dry. It may continue to smell until it is dry, but the enzymes will gobble up the odor-causing bacteria during the drying process. Sometimes, a repeat or two is necessary, but it will do the trick.

Thank you for all the suggestions! Someone told me that when she was taking care of her dying mother the home health aide told her that citrus is good for taking away odor. And I like how both men just suggested to get rid of the couch!
Gardenparty - the smell of pads and gloves from sports is horrid! My DD7 plays ice hockey. You wouldn't believe how bad a little girl's hockey equipment can smell!
Luckily the IV fluids helped a lot. She is doing much better but the stuff coming out still isn't pretty!

If the cushions unzip, make certain the nasty stuff didn't soak into the pillow/sofa stuffings.
You also may consider renting a steamer.
