Anyone a true crime junkie? You know, people who were glued to CourtTV back in the days? Or who finds anything on ID interesting? I use to think it was terribly weird of me to be interested in such things... THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET!! Helped me realize I am not alone... and I feel my interest stems more in the need for wanting to see justice done.

I do have my limits, though. Anything to do with the death or rape of children I absolutely cannot watch. I also have periods where I could watch 48 Hours Mystery nonstop for months straight, and then not be able to stomach it for a while.

My poor SO always groans when I get in my true crime moods. His mother is into it even moreso than me, and he got his fill of watching anything on ID while with her. Her thing is that she cannot watch anything where the woman is a perpetrator. She said she hates seeing women portrayed that way.

So who else is fascinated by true crime?

I just enjoy true stories. And I agree with you DI, I can't watch the ones where kids are involved. I get too emotional on those.

I like these shows only to a degree. The cases that I watch need to have some sort of puzzlement in them, or I don't stick with the show.

While it's sad that two people's childhoods or choices were so dreadful to have come down to being drug dealers, there is no mystery or psychology about why that ends in death and violence - it's just the when. Another drug dealer and turf issues. A junkie gone crazed. Those cases seem all the same and in how they are investigated and why it happened.

The murder of a zillionaire in his safe room, the cult leader linked to deaths from Canada to Switzerland and maybe had Princess Grace in his cult - that's a whodunnit or whydunnit that intrigues.

Before all these tv shows and the internet I used to read everything by Anne Rule. Her books are unlike any other true crime writer's.

I have had a very strong sense of justice and injustice since I was a young child. I used to want to be a defense lawyer when I was a kid. Now, I would want to be the prosecuting attorney.

Wouldn't categorize myself as a junkie, but will watch when nothing else of interest is in, which seems to be more frequent these days. It drove POS nuts and he would always say I was just watching them to figure out the perfect crime to do away with him...

I'm also not a real junkie, but certain types of cases just fascinate me, like ones involving cults or spousal murders. I too used to read all of Ann Rule's books, and a lot of other real life books on crime and detection/investigation. I think that's why I enjoyed being an investigator for the Navy so much. It gave me a way to pursue wrong-doers without having to carry a firearm. I used to tell people (jokingly) that I enjoyed making grown men cry during questioning.

Certain cases have drawn me in and I can't stop thinking about them. Do you know about www.websleuths.com ? I hope it's okay to mention it on here. It's a forum for crime junkies, I used to go on there all the time but haven't recently.

One of my favorite authors...I read everything of hers.

I love true crime; love Anne Rule. My family thinks I'm weird!

I got interested in True Crime in law school, researching cases. I'm not much on TC television as I prefer reading. Most of the True Crime TV shows are so dramatic and do not stick with the facts.

I agree about Rule, she is the best. Amazing that she sat next to Ted Bundy in a volunteer situation while he was committing the murders and she didn't know. Her book on the Bundy case is the best, true accounting of his crimes.

I have actually never read anything by Ann Rule. Was she the lady who spent all that money on investigating the Jack the Ripper case? And wow, she worked with Ted Bundy. I would be so creeped out afterward.

Patricia Cornwell may be who you are thinking of in the Ripper case. I haven't read the book, though.

I don't like the new fictional crime dramas. The new ones cross the ethical line, in my opinion, to attract the viewers who like the gore and get off on it. I watch for justice aspects, investigation and wanting to get inside the head of a criminal and to prevent or stop these people, not to create more of these people by whetting their appetites for cruelty. I am concerned that the newer, more gory shows coming up with newer, crueler ways to kill, inspire creeps into new ways to torture. It's why I stopped watching "Criminal Mind." I want to know what goes on in heads or lives of criminals, but it shifted at some point into being a show for prurient interest and it lost me. "The Following" lost me at its pilot. I'm concerned 13-year-olds watch this and will one day feel the need to do these spike-in-the eye crap to others.

I've been a junkie since I was a kid---I sneaked copies of In Cold Blood and Helter Skelter from my parents' bookshelves, and read them secretly.

I've always had a strong urge to understand psychopaths and sociopaths.

I once read that those of us who are most drawn to this type of ...well, gore really are very sensitive to human interaction and attuned to the feelings of others.

Now, I realize that --for me-- the "addiction" sprung from the psychopathology in my own FOO.

I am an "ID" addict.. especially like the show "Disappeared"...

Can't watch this one as there is usually no resolution. I need resolution.

I agree Heavy Sigh. I don't watch Criminal Minds anymore. Never watched Dexter or the new Kevin Bacon one < okay, lied, watched first episode, think it is called the Following.

I decided last night that I watch altogether too much true crime TV.

I was watching Paranormal Witness yesterday (because I also watch too many ghost shows) and this womnan was having nightmares and being haunted by a girl who was tortured to death by a couple and I realized I knew exactly who the couple was because I'd seen them on a few other shows. Later in the show they of course revealed who the ghost was and who killed her and I was right.

*shakes head*

ID put tons of their shows on Netflix, so I stream them all day while I work. Shows like that make great background noise for doing really dull tasks.
