What is with people thinking their amateur fireworks display artists? Non stop noise for the next few hours, it's so damn annoying and of course my furbaby is going insane, loud noises terrify her. Ugh...just ugh.

Heaven forbid people celebrate something stupid and petty like....our liberty or something...
We just lit our neighborhood up with fireworks. Had the time of our lives. We celebrate our freedom. We celebrate the hundreds of thousands of people who have sacrificed their lives to give us these freedoms.
Rock on Americans. Light up the sky.
Happy 4th of July!

I LOVE the 4th. Sorry your fur baby is upset but it is fleeting. The lives lost by those who fought for it need to be celebrated.

I didn't mean to offend anyone so I'm sorry that I did I'm just saying that the constant noise coming from me all around me that will last until well past midnight and started somewhere around 6 o'clock gets a little annoying year after year. I love what the day represents and love moderate displays but a 6 hour barrage of it not so much. Sorry again.

Ahh yes, the fourth of July, celebrating the day Americans stood up and said that they would never again let a government take such control of their lives and treat them like children, celebrated across the nation with fireworks... except in those states where the government thinks the people aren't capable of doing so safely.
Your mileage may vary... in accordance with the prophecy.

My problem isn't the fireworks, it's the people who shoot them off after they are supposed to (the laws say 11pm except for holidays...they've been shooting them off after 11pm all week), which wakes me up from a dead sleep. I also dislike my "neighbor" who keeps shooting them toward the gas station...b/c you know gas and explosives go great together
They really do upset my foo-foos too and I feel bad for them, so I completely get what you're saying, Unagie

I get it, Unagie.
Although my gripe is more with the time... I have to work today, and my neighbors were setting off fireworks well after midnight.

Yep I'm awake after a couple hours of sleep. Fireworks went off until 2am, non stop for 8 hours. Like I said I love what the 4th represents but dislike the non stop noise until way to late. Thanks for letting me vent, sorry again if I offended.

It's the 3 days before and the three days after and the 8 hours of non-stop noise that bothers me. Not to mention the loud drinking parties and drunk drivers till wee hours of the morning. I think it has gotten out of hand lately, like Christmas, has become way too commercial. But I too celebrate what the 4th means.

My SO - a Vietnam Veteran - a very patriotic person - hates fireworks. He had enough explosions during the war to last his lifetime.
So I believe that hating fireworks has NOTHING to do with whether one is patriotic or not.
He attends many veteran funerals to stand a flag line. He volunteers at the VA hospital. He is a proud member of a veterans organization. There are more ways to show your patriotism than to shoot off fireworks.

I hate it too, Unagie.
The city I live in has several sponsored fireworks shows, and if people want to watch them, they should go there.
The backyard fireworks drive me nuts every year. I work early in the morning, and I don't appreciate the noise after midnight and later.
So I'm the bitch neighbor who calls the cops. And I don't care.
I don't break noise ordinances, and I expect my neighbors to respect them as well.

I'm right there with you. I had to drug my dogs last night with Ativan (from the vet!)
I like watching fureworks but not so much hearing then. FWS and I sat in the dark in our dining room watching them go off everywhere (we are in the country and this great state doesn't pass laws-ha!). We watched from 9-10 and then went to bed. They went off for another three hours. It sounded like a fricken war zone. I feel sorry for people with PTSD because you can't get away from it.

I totally agree with you, Unagie. I love celebrating holidays, but people should try to be respectful of others. Fireworks are beautiful, but 6hrs is crazy. Poor scared animals. There are other ways to be patriotic than nonstop fireworks.
Years ago, a friend of mine's son lost his eye from an adult amateur (a friend of theirs) shooting off a firework.
He had been shooting the fireworks off for years with no issues, yet still there was an accident. Some people know what they are doing, are careful, and watch the time. Others? Not so much.

I'm with ya Unagie!!!!
I'm originally from a state where fireworks are illegal... just moved to basically waterfront property where they are "illegal" but everyone has them.... foolishly took my dog out after I thought they were over....
They weren't and she held her poop for 24 hours because she's terrified to go outside now.
Ugh. Just let the professionals do it! One show per town! Stop at 10 or 11!
