When we bought our house we were delighted that the greenbelt is behind us. "It's state land, nobody can touch it!" was the pitch from the realtor. We look out into the Delaware State Forest when we sit on our deck.

The past few weeks there is a lot going on back there. I called the administration building in our community (there's an HOA, it's a large, planned, gated community) and they said that the power company was doing some work.

There seems to be a road behind my house now that was created, and every morning bright and early trucks and machinery and noise, lots of noise. They just started for the day already.

WTH am I going to be looking at when they're done?

We back up to "forever wild" as well. It was the biggest reason we bought the house. A couple of years ago we had the same thing, but it was a sewer line they were installing. Trucks, backhoes, etc every.single.day.

The good news - once they were done the "wild" grew back and we pretty much wouldn't even know they had been back there.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. That's what I'm hoping.

I might call Public Works in the community to get more details.

I can understand the gut-twisted feeling you must have; we have a beautiful unspoiled nature view here that we savor every day too.

I'd try calling the power company's regional office, maybe...or depending on how far away all trucks and such are, I might mosey down and ask the people working what's up.

Periodically here the power company goes through and butchers the trees within the power line easements. They also lease timber harvesting rights out for land they own. If you're not 100% certain on the property ownership behind you, I'd check out your local tax assessor's database and see what you can find out. Usually there will be a 'map view' where you can start off your property, then click adjacent parcels to determine who owns what.

I hope it turns out to be a mere tempest in a teapot, and you're back to enjoying peace and quiet very soon.

We had exactly the same situation... Trucks with jaws that literally but off trees sideways.. Turns out they built a narrow grassy access road, a utility easement. It's not so bad, except for the occasional illegal ATV rider.

Scary while happening, but now it's a nice path and the deer love it.

Be glad it's not a gas well going in. We have two near us. They work 24 hours complete with back up beeps and all the construction noise. It looks like something from NASA at night the way both sites are lit up. The first one was shining in my living room window all night long for a few months.

Hopefully the work near you won't last long. Check to see if there are any ordinances concerning the time work can begin.

I will check with the power company. When I called the HOA all I heard was power company's name and towers and I stopped listening because I was freaking out.

I don't mind the work starting early, we're up with the dogs at 5:30 anyway. It's just unsettling.
