Looking for a legitimate IQ test that is not a scam. Any direction?

Certified psychologist and an individual test like the Weschler or Stanford Binet. Even then, they have significant limitations. They can be STATISTICALLY accurate. Meaning they can compare the performance of people on one test and rank them, giving them a numerical score. But that's only a measure of what the test measures!
Some can be used as predictors of achievement or performance. Again, it depends on which test and what it measures.
Wikipedia has a good overview of the process. But if you absolutely need one, go to a certified person...

Depends on what you're looking for. If you just want a general number for your own sake, there are some tests online that will give you that. It's been years but I took one that was fairly accurate.
But if you need it for an official evaluation or diagnosis, you'll need to find someone qualified to administer a test. If you have a college or university anywhere near you, call their testing center. If they can't help, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Would not recommend paying for a test on the Internet.
DS was tested by the leading childrens's psychologist in our home country. The process was expensive but the tests and interviews lasted 3 hours.
He also took an online test before this.
The IQ test online had him as below average intelligence and the top psychologist placed him in the gifted range. This kid taught himself 100 Chinese words at 5, was doing his 8th grade brother maths homework for fun at age 8 etc etc. Just wanted to use these examples to illustrate that the online test was wrong and wrong by 50 IQ points!!!!!

Time I agree, standardized tests are just a glimpse of what a persons ability, and potential are, and if you have a person is visual vs verbal or vica versa you can get horribly skewed results.
My DS was kept out of the gifted program for 2 years at school because it was mainly a verbal test for the younger grades, assuming they can't read well yet....of course in second grade they give him the reading based test, and he scored off the charts smart. Too bad they can't test motivational drive now.....That's our problem these days.
