For anyone who hasn't heard of it, I'm going to Guam to get divorced. You can get an atty and paperwork done for $1500 uncontested D. You fly to Guam for 7 days (6 nights) and this is how you establish "residency." It takes 3-4 weeks to finalize once you leave, vs the 1-2 years in the USA (IL for me). I recommend this because it gives us STBXBSes the chance to get the toxins out of our lives ASAP and not have to be tied down to douches. Because I was only married for 7m, it was a huge deal to me to not have to be married to this loser while D'ing and have it take longer than the actual M!! F THAT!!! so, my friend put me onto the Guam D--his brother did it, it's a US territory with US courts, so it works!!! I'll update my post, but I leave on 27 sept and can't WAIT to be free of STBX-douche!!!!! Plus, i get a week's vacation in Guam. Who doesnt love a holiday?? Considering the cost of US atty, it's worth it to get a vacay at the same time! Tickets are expensive, but that's it!!! Consider it !!! xoxox

I think the key here is to have an UNCONTESTED divorce.

I only wish *I* was so lucky.

What about if you own property together? What about if you have children? What if your STBX has a mental disorder? What if the marriage is contested? What if you have joint assets that need to be divided? What happens if you come back to the States & your now-ex-spouse has a legal melt-down on you because you engaged in severely underhanded dealings?

No, it totally wouldn't be possible for us. If we were young & carefree 20-somethings, it would be something to consider. Or if we were divorcing reasonable men who were the simple kind of cheating dirtbags but otherwise decent human beings, this would be something to consider.

But our circumstances? No friggin' way. We'd be named in a newspaper article describing how we and our children had been found murdered.

My X probably would of 'gone-Guam' if he could of. The year he moved out, it was the end of January and he asked if the D could be final in 2 weeks? (Idiot) I figured he must of been lining up a date for Valentines!

I know there is some on here who have done their own no-contest divorces for very reasonable by filing directly.

So I guess the time is the lure of Guam.

I am lucky because I live pretty rural, I was able to do a non-contest with an attorney for less than Guam.

I will be anxious to hear how your Guam vacay goes.

My D was completed in 3 months and cost $450. It all depends on the circumstances surrounding the D. Of course, I didn't get a week's vacation in Guam.

I am lucky to be able to get a no-contest divorce in 30 days (or thereabouts) for $150. However, a side vacation to Guam would certainly be appealing if I lived in another state and didn't have my options...

Guam would have cost three times what mine did cost. No property, no kids, amicable...less than $500 and less than two weeks from filing to final.

Married -> I cheated -> We divorced -> We remarried -> Had two kids -> Now we’re miserable again
