I sent home permission slips for my 15/16 year old students to watch the Film Glory, as it's rated R for violence and historical use of the n-word. The movie is 25 years old and honestly would probably be a PG or PG-13 rating (at most) today. One of the mother's made me laugh by writing on the slip "After watching 'Wolf of Wallstreet' with SON, I feel like everything else is tame."

So.... what is the most inappropriate film you have watched with your parents/children? My parents were prudes and rarely watched a Rated-R film. However, my mom for my birthday acquiesced and took me to see the South Park movie (Because she liked the TV show). The whole Satan-Saddam Hussein romance scenes were really, really awkward. I know someone that watched Showgirls with their parents (the unrated version).

So... what are your stories?

I brought Rocky Horror Picture Show to my Dad's one weekend. (I was 16) and he let my little half sister watch it...She was 7 or 8!!

Took the boys to see Transformers when they were younger. The first 5 minutes with Megan Fox on the motorcycle ... Their little just entering puberty bodies kept trying not to look at me.. or the movie.. I was embarrassed for them.

When I was about 8 or so, my Dad and Grandpa were stuck with me for the day. They decided to go to the movies. "The Deer Hunter" seemed like a good choice . 1/2 way though my Dad started having serious flash backs, so we had to leave... Not wanting to waste a trip, we saw "Octopussy" instead. It was a quiet ride home.

It wasn't really a movie, but my dear MIL was visiting from out of state. We had HBO and there was a Sam Kinison special on. I don't know what the hell we were thinking that we thought my dear MIL would like him or that we would be comfortable with Sam describing how to perform oral sex on a woman with MIL sitting there!

I was visiting my parents from out of state. Dad and I decided to go see "My Cousin Vinny" which we enjoyed greatly, but the use of "fuck" was constant and made me uncomfortable because my Mom and Dad are very devout and conservative Christians and never, ever speak like that.

eta: When we got home my Dad told my Mom that it was a good thing she didn't want to go to the show because the language was a "little rough".

I was in Jr HS when Halloween came out. My dad had a real issue with us seeing nudity in movies or on TV. My younger brother and I begged him that we wanted to see the movie and that there wouldn't be any nudity. He screamed that the first time he saw anything, we'd be going to bed. The very first scene had nudity. My brother and I were never so still or so quiet. We didn't move a muscle. It was never discussed again after that.

When I was on my late 20s or early 30s my mother wanted to see Raindeer Games. When Cherlize Theron dropped her top I had flashbacks to Halloween and was just as still that day in the theater as I was that night in our living room.

My dad once (many years ago) brought home a video (remember those- I barely do ) called Caligula (this is how memorable it was-- I still recall the title!)

He was told it was about the Roman Empire but, when we as a family started watching it, it started out with a man in bed with a horse then the scene switched to a Roman orgy!!

After a while ( I was very young so I don't know if we watched for 30 seconds or 3 minutes) my parents realised this was a porno film and both jumped to stop this film!!!

I remember watching White Palace with my Mom. Well, at least until the scene with Susan Sarandon and James Spader. I decided I was tired and had to go to bed. Much too hot a scene to watch with one's Mom. I was in my 30s.

When my daughter was three, we took her to see Gremlins at the theatre. When the Gremlins came through the movie screen (it looked real in the theatre) she jumped up and ran out. I ran after her but those little legs were fast!

When we got home that night, she brought her stuffed Gizmo to our room and said that he needed to sleep with us.

SMS- you just had the same response as my mom... Although she didn't do the laughing and went straight to cough/ vomit mode (I think she wet herself before these responses but before we realised there was an issue with the "family film "

Just like her it was when video stores first started popping up. I mean they were so new the stores rented video players because a lot of customers didn't even own VCRs yet. We were on vacation at my maternal grandparent's lake house for a week and my parents decided to go to a video store and rent a player and several movies. One of the movies...I Spit on Your Grave. I think they were expecting it to be a cheesy action movie about revenge (ala Chuck Norris or Clint Eastwood's movies of the day). As I recall a friend of my dad's recommended it to him.

Needless to say all of us were only too anxious to put in another movie.

We let our son watch Robocop when he was 4. He loved it! We wound up buying him all the toys associated with the movie. He played Robocop for years.

Now you guys have me reminiscing about middle school (no parents involved)

We watched Tommy Boy over and over with both kids. I didn't think too much about it until I heard one ds (about 8 or 9 @the time) repeating the scene when Richard knocks on the door while Tommy is trying to sleep. <falsetto voice> "Housekeeping! You want me jerk you off?"

Poor kid had no idea what he had said or why I was standing there with my mouth hanging open.

My dad let me watch "the life of Brian" when I was in 7th grade. Yep. Full frontal male nudity. Awkward.
