Hey! Happy Birthday!
Your insights are right on. Maybe the wishes you get from SIers and IRL will lift your sadness. It's OK if it doesn't, but it may.
I still feel like a little boy when someone wishes me happy birthday, which was great when my 3.5 year old GS sang it to me on my last birthday. I felt about his age. Which means that this year, he'll be older than me on my birthday....
If you do a little celebrating on consecutive days, you can make your b'day last at least week. Just sayin'....

Happy Birthday!!
I love birthdays! Even though my 40's haven't been kind to me physically (holy shit when did I start looking this old?!), there is still cake and presents! Yay! Cake!!
There is nothing wrong with a day all about you. Or a week.

Thank you all sooooo much!!!!!
I am feeling better.
Actually, after I posted this early this morning I went to my wife who was still sleeping. I snuggled up to her, expressed I was sad, and desired a hug.
She warmly held me and made calm sounds. (wife NOT a morning person....so it was really nice to hear peaceful sounds from her.). I enjoyed the embrace...made me just a little later than I wanted to get to work, but was worth it. Was still earlier than some managers...but felt the pull to get in extra early to get caught up on what had been missed while I was away at a week long conference last week then took a day of vacation yesterday following Retrouvaille weekend.
I see many folks who have been with me since my joining SI over a year ago chime in....and some newer ones too.
Fellowship with you all is healing and restorative in nature.
I am pleased I have offered the same report to some of you and will continue to make the effort into the future.
God be with us all.

Sometimes, holidays and birthdays get me down, too. Not sure why. It sounds like you have really come a long way in learning about yourself and fighting your demons. We all have them. You should be proud of yourself!
I hope you have a Happy Birthday!

Thanks Still2Suspicious. I was still unsure of what to do...started to make a case to NOT do that. Dang....it seems like such a simple thing, but I struggled with it. 'course, I was wanting to retreat due to my saddness this morning......
anyway...not out of the woods but it is DANG NICE to have support from others like ya'll.
My wife easily accomodated my request...not grumpy about being nudged early in the morning....only showed kind comfort to me. I would have missed this experience had I put my work boots on and left. It is scary how simple the healthy choice can be at times....and how easily those opportunities can be dissolved.....
Some of the simplest encouragement can make tremendous differences.
Peace.

happy birthday.
I was depressed when it was my birthday after the A as well. I will be 43 later this year as well. We would have been in the same school year.
But, you are very strong. You need to give yourself more credit. Maybe you don't feel great but you survived so much trauma. You inspire many people to continue on through their troubles.
Go celebrate your life.
