Yay - it surfaced again! And just in time, I've made real progress.

I am proud to report that we now can park two vehicles in our two-car garage. WOOT!!! This is HUGE. I've been living here almost 2 years, and this is the first time we've been able to do that. Thank you, Goodwill and landfill.

Cleaned out every inch of my bedroom and its two (yes, two) walk-in closets. Purged every drawer and every nook and cranny. All the "fat" clothes and "skinny" clothes are gone. Now it's just clothes that fit. Rearranged the furniture so I can use my dressers as night stands and sold the night stands on Craigslist. More floor space! Less dusting! Woo hoo!

Cleaned and rearranged the dining room to make space for an elliptical that I found at a second-hand sporting goods store for dirt cheap. It's a gorgeous full-featured inclining fancy doodad that was delivered today. The delivery guys (same guys who sold it to me on Saturday) were hilarious. One asked me if I clean as a living. I gave him a WTF look, and he said, "Your house is just immaculate! I love it. And is that rhubarb I smell?" I was amused, so I let him pull some from the side of the garage after they set up the machine. They were so pleased. The elliptical is a key part of my cleaner living goal, and I'm super stoked that it's here.

Next up - DD's closets. If you don't hear from me by tomorrow night, send help.

Sounds amazing!!

I move soon (ish?), and am looking forward to doing another clothing swap and purging a lot of clothes so that the small closets at my new place don't start out over-burdened. In the meantime I am living in squalor of course

May the force be with you. If you get lost follow the light. Or the bubbles? I can't remember which.

I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment with 2 little girls and 2 cats. I've had funks when I've let it all turn to hell and it really impacts my mood.

Nothing feels better than having the visible and hidden spaces neat, tidy, easy to clean and easy to play with.

I may have reached a point where I'd piss on him if he was on fire.... eventually!!

Time for fall cleaning?

I went into my garage this morning to find bulbs for my flood lights, and I realized just how out of control it had gotten over the summer thanks to my DS and his friends using it as a hang out and to work on their cars/trucks/motor bikes/etc..

And then I started thinking about how fall is coming, soon to be followed by winter, and how the heck was I going to fit my car inside once it gets cold?!!

Operation Garage is being planned now for execution over Labor Day weekend (because it's too darn hot right now).

How's everyone else doing?

I worked on my garage a couple of weeks ago and made substantial progress! Still can't quite fit my car in, well I could if I stacked boxes, but I refuse to until I go THROUGH those boxes.

So, next up finish the garage, then tackle the office, then start painting my two extra bedrooms, then replace carpet.

Thanks nik!!!

I'm exhausted from reading this.

You have inspired me to run the vacuum today. Will book the carpet cleaners for mid-September, and that will entail a tidy-up to get everything off the floor.

I wish I had a garage to put stuff in!!! We've been making progress with the basement though. We took back all of the pop cans and I've decided that I'm going to purchase a metal rack shelf the next time I see one on sale and that's going to go where the cans where. It will be great for storage!

I'm hoping to go through all of our food storage containers and get rid of some/most. We got new ones recently, but I'm not opening up that box until we have room in the cupboards!

I am ready to take some books and clothes to be re-sold soon post-move...and made muffins, pasta, a blt and cold-brewed iced coffee yesterday! Feeling optimistic about keeping the new place ship-shape (pretty much totally unpacked). Still have to find where to store some odds and ends but having roommates soon will light the fire on that one :)

Sit. Feast on your life.

Well done, nora!

Got word that my landlord is coming for a walk-through on Friday to check some plaster repair work in my DS' closet. Time to light a fire under the boy to clean out the closet.

Check out Crescita's thread in Off Topic... 30 day de-clutter challenge!!

Today, I went through more papers in my stack of kids' school papers. It's nearly gone! I plan to have it finished within a week or so.

I also went through 2 boxes that the kids filled with toys to donate. I pulled a few things out that I'd like to keep for future kids... but then I added more toys from another box. As well as some broken toys that went into the trash.

Earlier today, I purchased a metal 4 shelf rack with caster wheels off ebay. Once that comes, we will set it up in the basement and fill it with boxes/storage bins. Hopefully, that will give more space in the basement.

Failure is success if we learn from it.

Got the house in primo shape, top to bottom and in every nook and closet, just in time for the landlord's walk through on Friday. She noted that I had not only fixed a faulty screen door, but had also done several routine maintenance tasks that had been on her list. She was impressed enough that she decided not to charge me the overage (several hundred dollars) that we ran up on the annual propane budget over last winter.

Biggest pay off? My house is spotless and organized. At least for the moment.

One thing that helps me is that every time I consider buying something, I think about having to move it every time I move, which has historically been every 1-2 years...

I am starting this process. I just want to walk out nad leave it all behind. I have stated packing up the few thing I think I want to keep but know when I actually move I will more than likely get rid of more stuff. 28 years worth of crap is a lot to go through and parts of it is depressing and then it just sits.

thanks for the motivation!!
