As many of you know I separated from my employer at the beginning of the month.

Today I received a bill from them. (From the benefits office actually).

For $0.91

So I called them to find out what this is about. I am really stressed today and am fighting a headache and a sore neck because of it.

Me: What is this bill for?

Benefits Dude: This is a bill for Child Life Insurance.

Me: For when? I did not elect to get this coverage

BD: Sir you left the company on March 3. Coverage continued until March 31.

Me: I see. And If I pay this can I continue coverage?

BD: No. Coverage ends on April 1.

Me: So what happens if I don't pay this?

BD: Then you children will not be covered for March

Me: Umm OK Thanks.

I don't know whether to laugh at the absurdity of this or scream at the frustration and stupidity.

And this post sums up the state of affairs of our world, I think.

Think they'll put that .91 cent bill on your credit if you don't pay it?

IDK. I've been working so hard to bring my credit score up. This might just blow all that hard work.

Ya know that may be something you want to think about. A ding against your credit is a ding - regardless of the circumstances. If you are fighting to correct your credit, you may want to just send them the .91 in coins, taped to a postcard!

Send them a check for $1 and then when you get a check back for 9 cents refuse to cash it. It well mess up their balance and drive them crazy. Totally worth the buck.

91 cents is my cost for the premium. I would definitely pay it if I could continue the coverage but that is not an option. The only thing I can do is transfer the coverage to a different policy once I either bought one or got a new one through a new employer. I commented that I will just accept their coverage and the Benefits Dude agreed that there was no reason to pay for last month's coverage. It just seemed bizarre to me and I was very stressed that day so it was the icing on the cake.
