in the Coast Guard! I signed the parental approval yesterday. She still has to go through all the entrance stuff, but I don't foresee any problems with that. The only hangup is that she still has braces and cannot go to basic training until they are off. Her braces are primarily due to a canine tooth issue (they are turned into the palate as opposed to sliding down in place), and that can only be worked on so fast. The rest is up to Mother Nature. That has her somewhat bummed, but she is tentatively scheduled for basic in January (if her teeth cooperate between now and then).

I am happy to see her so excited about something again after all the recent emotional turmoil!

That also means I will be an empty nester when that happens. Well, me and the big fur babies. Momma gets to party!!

Congrats to her making such a big life decision at such a young age. I hope she finds the Coast Guard to be a fulfilling and rewarding career. Glad you have something positive to post about.

Good for her!! Coasties are a good group and you've got the added bonus are not winding up somewhere like Fort Bliss TX My H started out enlisted in the USCG many, many, many moons ago before going on to get a commission in another branch of service.

Hope all goes well with w/the entrance processing and that her teeth cooperate with the desired itinerary.

My DD17 just joined the National Guard and goes off to basic in 3 days on the other side of the US. This will be the first time she has been away from home.

I to am proud of her and this seems to be the ticket out of her emotional turmoil also.

I wish your DD the best of luck.

Semper Paratus!!!!!!! I was in the Coast Guard way back in the day. Just long enough to finance my college education. It was very good for me and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I was stationed in an awesome location and even got sent TDY to the Virgin Islands after hurricane Hugo.

Good luck to her! Feel free to PM if I can answer any questions even though my time as a coastie was a long time ago.
