I was going through a coffee maker once every year until.... I got a cuisenart. I freaking love them. They have all lasted me about 3-6 years. They have some replacement parts and my newest one has a hot water dispenser too so I can make instant oatmeal and tea for iced tea in less than 5 minutes. They also make one with an insulated carafe so it stays hot all day and by all day I mean still hot 10 hours later.

I don't drink much coffee and my SO is a tea enthusiast, so my day-to-day maker is a single-serve Keurig (using the single serve baskets). When I have a crowd of people for breakfast, I haul out my trusty Cuisinart. It makes great coffee. I double recommend cleaning any coffeemaker by running a dilute vinegar wash through it every few months if you use it a lot.

So, apparently jrc is looking for a new "Mr", (she's not happy with the current one), that puts out not just once, but several times in a row. Oh, and she wants to be able to "turn him on" at night, but then he has to wait till the morning to give her the "jolt". And to top it off, she doesn't want him to be "bitter" about this, lol.
Jrc, have you considered MC?

I have a DeLonghi espresso machine that I adore. It is an one cup at a time brew, but you load it with water, beans and just press the button to grind per cup. So you can easily make cup after cup on demand but no pod mess like with a Krups.
However, if your coffee flavor is what's off, what's up with your water supply? Are you using tap? Are you filtering it (say with a Brita?). Water quality is a HUGE part of coffee flavor.
While there's a lot to be said for the fancy machines, coffee flavor is really about bean and water quality. So even a cheapo Mr. Coffee can make good coffee with good beans and good water.

I have whole house water filtration with a high quality filter that gets changed frequently. So I don't think it's the water. It makes fine tea and such when boiled for such purposes.
My coffee right now is Dunkin Donuts. It's old tho... So that might be part of the problem.
I don't want an espresso divorce!!! Those quickie divorces are the worst!!!

Wow, so much Cuisinart love. My last two have lasted less than two years and each died of the same ailment; the warmer would no longer keep the coffee warm. Sadz. I'm also in the market, but not going the Cuisinart route again. Which is sad, cause my last one was a shiny red one!

Wow rebreather....Sorry to hear of your bad luck with them. I have been thrilled with the quality of the machine and length of time it lasts.

We had Gevalia ones, they lasted about 3 years each so we bought Cuisinart since no more free ones. The first one lasted 14 months. The second one lasted 17 months We were tired of spending upwards of $100 and it only lasting a year. We bought an old inexpensive Mrcoffee ($25) and he has lasted for just over a year (knock on wood) and is still working. I brew 2 pots a day and immediately put them in a carafe so people can serve themselves from that. Our problem always seems to be that the part that heats the water goes out and it no longer brews, but the hotplate still works. For a while, I was so tired of replacing them so often that I poured boiling water through a filter that sits atop the carafe.
