(pulling up a chair and signaling La Bartenderss (Alex? Damn it, if I knew I was going to live this long, I would have tried to have had less concussions) to pour me whatever she can put her hands on first)
Ya ever have one of those nights, when at some point, you think it's going SO well, that You Just Might Get Lucky, and then have it all fall to shite around you? (Did the badger just stick it's paw up, or ask for another drink?) Let's just say that the birthday boy decided to have dessert:
and the evening ended with a bang that was NOT the bang that was being anticipated. I'm Cherokee and Irish, which explains my calm and level-headed temperament.
So, cigars and bottle-o-booze still un-broached, his foot has been extracted from mouth, and tomorrow evening is likely Cigar Night Take II. OTOH, we had a fantastic night last night at a luau and scored some impressive "vintage" Hawaiian shirts and a dress!
Sounds like you guys could form one hell of a band! My new boss finally received his guitars from his Dad (who hand carried them down to him vice shipping them), and they are now I stands all over his office. I can tell when he's a bit stressed because all of the sudden, I'm getting a song from his office. He closes the doors, but the walls are paper thin but, since I like the background music, I don't let him know that.
So, taking an easy day since I had a little too much Sculpin (Ballast Point) at the luau and am feeling a bit ... peckish. Hoping that a bit of the hair of the dog that tore my arm off will help. And a woof-load of tonic!

(Pulling up bar stool next to Skan) Looks like I have some catching up to do. Hot day here in our neck of the woods. Messed up my knee a bit working on a house project and I was advised to use plenty of ice. Well ice with liquid booze over it for the pain. I would like one of my favorite summer time scotchtails please. 2/3 Compass Box Great King Street and 1/3 Compass Box Orangerie with a twist of citrus please. Ginger Ale chaser please. Yes I added scotch to my scotch but I assure you it's quite refreshing. Not G&T level refreshing but refreshing still.
Sucks to be your hubby Skan. We men can be as dumb as shit sometimes. Ok well maybe just me too. That's why IRL I don't talk much.
Otherwise it would be a life of forced celibacy for me.
jk jk.
well maybe I'm not.
Sounds like a heck of a luau though. At least you're having some fun.
I just have to comment that the lady patrons of this establishment are really impressing me with their beer knowledge. Sculpin IPA is one of my all time personal favs. It's somewhere in my top 10 and that's coming from a guy who used to work in a brewery. That fresh squeezed IPA a page back was really tasty too.

Excellent advice, yop. Whoever told you that must be a wise and sage person. A gentleman (or woman) and a scholar. Whomever that was.
Never had Sculpin. Ranks at a 98% on Beer Advocate. Dayum. I will be keeping my eye out for that one.
Hoping Cigar Night Take II goes better, Skan!
G&T sounds like a fantastic idea. Think I'll go for a Tanqueray Rangpur Lime G&T with a squeeze of lemon, myself.

Nummy! You talked me into it Bombay Sapphire gin, some tonic, and two frozen chunks of Key Limes as ice cubes. As they thaw, I squish them little by little and note how the flavor changes.
We're lucky here in the San Diego area. We have some amazing breweries. Around the east county, we have three micro-breweries. Tried one out last month, and it was amazing. BNS, but don't think that they sell out of he area yet. They sell by the growler, by the glass, by the shot (very small glass) which is $1.50 so you can try a lot before you settle in. Different retro bands during the weekends and different food trucks as well. Gonna try out the other ones real soon as well. Ballast Point did a beer festival at the Maritime Museum and brought out some beers that they don't sell except at their brewery. On the water, trying out new beers, and watching boats go by. Doesn't get much better! LosferWords, watch out for some of those Ballast Point beers! I forgot that they can be potent, and spend some time yesterday feeling very sorry for myself.
BTW, one of FWHs and my fun things to do is to go to the local BevMo, and randomly pick an aisle, side, shelf number, and then look for something that we haven't tried. Pick up a big bottle of it and split it, or one person gets most if the other doesn't like it. We have a bottle of a Belgium Raspberry Beer right now, which I have a feeling is going to be too sweet for me, but heck, who can resist raspberries!

Love me a Sculpin, the local pizza joint has it on tap along with Hop Stoopid. I tend to trade off each time I'm in there.
The SoCal breweries have a left coast style that is very drinkable - both Ballast Point and Stone produce world class IPAs that are full of flavor and tickle your nose with the herbal notes.
Last night's beverage was Alaskan Hopothermia. Because my friends in Tahoe got some snow, didjaknow, making for some great hero-dirt on the High Sierra trails.

D-Daddy I can totally see you singing along with the head banging and twirling that mic too.
Tonight's nitecap is brought to you by the fine smokey Scots of Laphroaig. If I can get one of you to join me that would be lovely. I'll pass it down, if you can get Sam to get you a glass have at it, it would be a shame to just take a pull - this ain't Jacks.

It's been a helluva week. I got phase 1 of my giant project off the ground and now I have stacks of office work for the weekend along with meetings and trainings, then phase 2 starts Monday.
I need a drink. Who's pouring? Whatcha got? Is it good over ice?
And can somebody freshen up the bowl of dog water? It looks like the badger has been playing in it, and the pup is thirsty.

Ugh, I am so far behind on EVERYTHING these days. Work, homework, housework etc. I think I need an extra day for the next 12 weeks to catch up. For right now I'll settle for an escape from the mounting piles of "to do's". I'll have a Jameson and Coke and a nice long conversation with the badger. Now where is that furry little philosopher?

Oh man, I am dead. Absolutely dead. I'll take whatever un-doubled hopped IPA is on tap, please!
Did 2 hours paddling in the bay this morning. Saw 4 dolphins, one sea lion, and a bunch of very confused beginner people on SUPs. Then put away the outriggers and bolted home to get cleaned up and eat a quick PB&J sandwich because FWH and I had a Two, count-em, TWO Hour Couples Massage Class!
From which we've just gotten back. Feeling pretty limp.
So I'm in the mood for major decompression, with the hope that I get my 2nd or 3rd wind pretty soon. The folks are coming next Thursday to stay with me through Monday, and they are OCD clean freaks. Me, well, I just vaccumed the couch the other day and I swear that I could knit another cat from all of the fur that came off of it! But really, go spend the day on the water or clean house ... hum ....
Disclaimer, this woman and this canoe are FAR too young to be me or my canoe. But really, how much harm can a dust rhino do?

OK Lassie, here ya go. Take a load off, there's bound to be some catching up happening later on.
And Skan, this ol's standby should fit the bill for you just fine. Remember you don't have to vacuum the lawn.
It's been SO HOT here I'm afraid the woods are going to spontaneously combust. I bought a couple items at the neighborhood market on my way home. I pounded the gaterade and put the Ninkasi Tricerahops IPA in the fridge as I'm just too thirsty. Yeah, it's like that
Sam, how about a tall glassa ice water with a lemon wedge? Can you hook a girl up? Maybe I'll order something stronger in a moment.

Skan - It sounds like you had a brilliant and fabulous day! The dust rhinos can wait.
Hope your schedule lightens up soon, IrishLass.
DD - I am not nearly enough drinks in to join in on the karaoke, but I am always game for watching/listening!
Currently sipping on a Bulleit Rye on the rocks after a fun day in the mountains with the family (including the dergs). Worked up a thirst in the dry old west here!

Lovely IPA, I do agree. Decided to go a bit Hawaiian today and am into Kona Brewing Co "Castaway" while I'm watching the Charger whip NY's ass and devotedly hoping that Michael Vick gets sacked by about 2,000 lbs of crushing front line. In the nastiest way possible, being that I'm not considered to be a forgiving woman at all.
HOLY SHIT Brandon Oliver just about ran the entire length of the field. I'm channeling Darrell Sproles!
Anyway, good afternoon being had by all. Still gotta clean the rest of the house, but little by little. Maybe the best option is to lock up all the rooms we don't need next weekend, after throwing the loose stuff in there, and no look again until spring! Think I'll ponder that over another brew.

Whew! What a weekend. I had my training meeting on Saturday followed by office work and whatnot. Training involved - I shit you not - learning how to inject TREES in the middle of the worst drought in 100+ years to help save their lives.... (you might feel a little sting)....
Today I got a little work done about the homestead which included bringing home 2/3 of a cord of (dead) oak firewood. I split some of it when I was loading but then the maul head started feeling a bit loose. So I had to heft these 20" rounds up into the bed of the 4x4.
I have a love-love relationship with trees. I love them alive, lawdy they fill my soul, especially when the evening sun comes through their leaves sideways, there really is nothing finer. And then there is the dead tree. Many succumb to disease or development or wind or lumberjacks (I know a couple)... and become wood. The tall straight trees can go to the mill and become lumber but the squat and lumpy trees are really good for about only four things: habitat, mulch, turning, or firewood.
And so gentle reader (damn I miss Ann Landers), the wind brought it down, the sawyer made it into pieces, and I, I brought it home to warm the landlord's living room and pay my rent.
I really miss having a fireplace. Good thing O'Stereotypes has a nice big one with a huge mantle and a few tables with shabby leather chairs nearby. Ahhhh. The smell and warmth of a nice fire on a chilly day - such a treat. And this is why I love trees even when they are dead.
Except it was 95 degrees in the canyon and the RH was the teens! It was like I was the one needing an injection (nurse, more saline!). Who ever thought Indian Summer was a good idea lemme clue you in - NOT A GOOD IDEA. Doesn't the weatherman know how damn dry everything is? Geesh.
Oh right. Here comes the fog. It will probably rain under the redwoods tonight.
I live in a strange place.....
Did you notice? I typed the first half of this after one harmless little glass of the following And the descent into drivel was caused by the second glass. What 8% ABV? after 1 22oz bottle it's like I had a sixpack of Coors.
Ninkasi is a really fabulous brewery. Either I always choose well or they always brew great stuff.

Instead I was able to pick up the following two bottles.
I kinda doubt these will make it until next weekend. I have a couple important meetings on Tuesday so I might reward my awesome performance after that. Tee Hee!

A good friend of mine has just recommended this to me. Newky Brown is a good beer anyway, and I think that this might be my Halloween drink for 2014!
So, how 'bout them Chargers? I feel like someone done stole my boys and put someone else in their skins. I mean, who ARE these people? I'm so used to them pulling defeat from the jaws of victory that I feel a bit lost right now.
KK, wish I could teleport some wood over your way. I took down a swamp maple that was driving me crazy, and then cut it into good fireplace lengths. It's been aging nicely for about 4 years now. And I don't have a fireplace! I've been giving it away like crazy, but I still have a stack of it. I swear this winter I'm going to leave "care piles" on the doorsteps of every house in the area that has a chimney. I just want that area cleared out!

Looks like I missed a lot of fantastic beers while I was away. Been avoiding the bar scene a bit as I've been either drinking in moderation or avoiding alcohol. Rough month for me...
I had DD4 to myself tonight and she ran me ragged.
In need of a cup of ice coffee so I figured I would pop in for one. Although all those hops everyone is posting looks pretty tasty. Any one else want a cup of coffee?
Skan, glad your Chargers beat up the Jets for me. However, they beat up on my Bills a few weeks ago too.
Then again that's easy to do since 2000. Chargers look like a good team this year. Enjoy!

YOP, do you remember Glen Parker, who used to play for the Bills? That big ole slab of a man? I knew him when he was a 98 lb weakling, literally. He played the Lion in a production of Daniel in the Lion's Den. It was so strange to see him grow, and grow, and grow. Nice kid, lovely man. Unless you were on the football field!
