Audrey is the woman Dr. Seuss left his first wife for.

His first wife committed suicide. The note she left behind cited the affair as the reason.

Audrey’s legacy as far as I’m concerned is pain, suffering and heartache.

It sucks to learn that she got to live a full life (97) that few get to have and the BW didn’t.

Seuss's BW, Helen, left a suicide note that read as follows:

Dear Ted, What has happened to us? I don't know. I feel myself in a spiral, going down down down, into a black hole from which there is no escape, no brightness. And loud in my ears from every side I hear, 'failure, failure, failure...' I love you so much ... I am too old and enmeshed in everything you do and are, that I cannot conceive of life without you ... My going will leave quite a rumor but you can say I was overworked and overwrought. Your reputation with your friends and fans will not be harmed ... Sometimes think of the fun we had all thru the years ...

Gloating about the death of an old lady none of us knew seems crass.

Sleeping with a married man and destroying a family also "seems crass".

This is about Audrey taken from one of the news reports

She and Theodor Geisel, who was 17 years older, were both married to others when they began an affair in the 1960s. Theodor Geisel’s first wife, Helen, killed herself and Audrey Geisel sent away the two daughters she had with her first husband after she and the author married in 1968.

“They wouldn’t have been happy with Ted, and Ted wouldn’t have been happy with them. He’s the man who said of children, ‘You have ‘em and I’ll entertain ‘em,’” she told The New York Times in 2000. “Ted’s a hard man to break down, but this is who he was. He lived his whole life without children and he was very happy without children. I’ve never been very maternal. There were too many other things I wanted to do. My life with him was what I wanted my life to be.”

WOW. Just WOW. What a wicked witch.

I never knew this. I will never look at a Dr. Seuss book the same again.

Sounds like a wonderful, caring woman. NOT. Wonder how that affected her daughters. Why would she care?

I don’t care if she’s an old lady or not. She’s a whore. Today I choose to remember the first wife and all that she suffered. God knows I had six months after dday of wishing I was dead too. I totally get why she killed her self. Poor thing. Hope she is resting in peace.

Audrey Geisel sent away the two daughters she had with her first husband after she and the author married in 1968.

Once the abandoned girls became adults Audrey then wanted them in her life. Why? So they could look after her now that she old. Selfish to the end.

This was my reaction as well. I had all the books, loved reading them to the kids.

I would offer a contrasting mindset or approach in how we "see" the books make use of them.

Since she did not appear to love children from the heart but loved herself instead, i think that using the means used to be selfish (sales and money from stories) can be used to be selfless instead.

In other words, why not "show them how it's done" and love our children with those stories (since I've never knowingly known a child who didn't enjoy them), enjoying and savoring the experience that this woman spat out and wouldn't selflessly indulge her own with.

And if I'm misjudging the book (this woman) by her cover... Well... i guess it wouldn't be the first time i did that-even with a Suessian book, no less.

I wish her peace, but I know she will never find it now. She is not resting in peace because she was weak and fell to the temptation.

Both of Geisel's daughters, Leagrey Dimond and Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, have been involved with their stepfather's legacy in recent years, particularly with The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts.

It appears the daughters reached a place of peace with their mother. Hopefully they have broken the generational curse and will continue the philanthropic work.
