I'm sure it will look better than a prosthetic, but I do wonder if the level of functionality will be worth it.

I'm starting to think this should have been posted in F & G. I'm enjoying the one-liners!
So, to add to the frivolity, just think of the advantage in a game of Twister!

NDY, you beat me to it!
It would freak me right. the. f. out. But then, on reflection, having one's hand chopped off would be major freak-out material too, so...
Heck, just the external fixators make me feel a tad queasy.

Here is the update: The hand was reattached on December 4th.
(with original source listed by kernel)
Doctors at a hospital in China saved a man's hand by grafting it to his ankle after it was severed in an industrial accident, according to reports in the Chinese media.
Xiao Wei lost his right hand in an accident in the factory where he worked but it could not be reattached to his arm right away. Doctors kept the hand alive by stitching it to his left ankle and "borrowing" a blood supply from arteries in the leg.
After a month, they were able to reattach the hand to his arm. Xiao Wei said he would be having another operation in six months but might not be able to regain full use of his hand.
Earlier this year another Chinese man had a new nose grown on his forehead after a traffic accident.

I saw this on Jay Leno last night....he of course had some smart ass jokes about it....
I think it is amazing that they can save the hand by doing this....
At least it was a man...a woman would have to make sure her nail polish matched on her toes and fingers.....
