Let's just say I had a hell of a week at sea last week.
Then, to top it off, yesterday while out with friends my iPhone took a short (as in 2 seconds) dip in a toilet when I had forgotten it was in my back pocket.
I'm talking I was reaching for it as it went in and it spent zero time submerged in the water.
I dried it off and it seemed to be fine. All the buttons were working, etc.
THEN
After I took care of my initial reason for being in there, I placed the phone on the sink to wash and dry my hands...a sink that apparently had about a half inch of water on it.
And it sat there for a good minute or so while I washed and dried my hands.
Now...it won't turn off, won't slide, etc. I've had it in a bag of rice since 5 p.m. yesterday. Same thing this morning - won't do anything, though my alarm did work this morning even though I can't slide it off.
Here's the irony - I got this phone last Tuesday as a replacement under warranty for a defective speaker problem on my original phone.
Any other suggestions?
Probably going to hit up Verizon at lunch today...argh.

Your first sentence took me back to Overboard
I'm so sorry you have yet another thing to deal with...I know it's been a really tough week for you.
I hope Verizon can help you out.

(((AJ))
take it to Verizon and see if they can do anything. I recently had to replace a phone. Although I wasn't thrilled about having to do it, the rep at Verizon found a low cost way for me to get a new phone. Look into their 'edge' program if you're eligible.

If anything it needs to sit in the rice for about 48 hours.
The bad thing is this method is most successful if you haven't tried pushing any buttons or swiping any screens.
Good luck.

Not just the rice, but the rice in an oven at 100-110 degrees. I have saved many blackberries with this technique, have not had to attempt with Iphones, and honestly, if mine dies, I will not replace with another I phone, I hate it.

Cue the Twilight Zone music...literally just got back 1/2 hour ago from Verizon with the replacement phone. If you're going to kill a phone, do it when you're due for an upgrade. Cost me $32.59.
I plugged the old one in to see if I could transfer the photos out because the new one is smaller capacity (didn't want to go to a 5).
And lo and behold...
...the dang thing works! Nothing is wrong with it (so it seems)...I can reach all the apps - I have all the data - touch screen is fine
Now I get to trek back and return the other one.
Oy vey, but I'm happy!
Thank you, Ziploc and brown rice!

Hell...for $32, I'd keep the upgrade/replacement.

You might notice the old one has poor battery life since it got wet. For $32 it's worth keeping the new one. And for what it's worth, I really like my 4S. When I got a personal phone last month, I got the 4S instead of a 5 just because it's what I am used to and I already have accessories for it.

Yeah, I think I'm keeping it.
After all, the old one swam in a toilet.

Might be a good idea to keep the replacement. The nice thing about the 4S is that you don't have to change out all of your chargers. Arghhh the 5 is nice but a PITA on that.

I'm late but did your phone survive? I dropped mine in the toilet last month and had to leave it in rice for 3 days before it worked. Oh and I had to recharge it b/c the battery died while bathing in rice. I thought the phone was a done deal until I plugged it into the charger and after a few minutes, it sprang back to life.
ETA: I bothered to read the thread AFTER I replied. DOH! Glad you got your phone back!
