Since we are not having March Break this year the school decided to do a full week of spirit days.

I need help with Monday

Monday: big hair dont care '80's day.

OMG i can manage the girls but my boys have very short buzz cuts. Any ideas for clothes or something for my boys to pull off an '80's look?

Tuesday: Lumberjack day wear plaid.

Ok this i have covered. Each kid has a plaid shirt.

Wednesday: St. Patrick's day.

- wear green/gold, dress like a Leprechaun.

Again i got this covered. Kids have green shirts, and i got the girls green headbands with a leprechaun hat on it and the boys green baseball caps with happy St Patrick day on them.

Thursday: Canadian Tuxedo. denim shirt and jeans.

- they all have a pair of jeans (although dd is picky and says she doesn't want to wear them) but i only have 2 denim shirts.

Friday: formal or comfy.

- the boys have black pants, dress shirts and ties. Dd has a dress up shirt she will wear with black pants. Little M...still looking for a dress but she may just decided to make it a pj day lol.

Is it weird that this shit causes me great anxiety?

First, not weird that it causes us anxiety. My kids are older, but I remember that panic (sometimes hard to remember that our worth as parents is defined by the ways in which we love and support our kids... and having their spirit week costuming just perfect is not necessarily the gauge here).

Anyhow, for the boys and 80s day, I'd look for the Miami Vice look. Boxy 'boyfriend' jackets in pastels kind of thing. If not, then go neon - as much as you can. If all else fails, what about the "cosby sweaters" (or maybe "A different world" is a better reference).

A look at an episode or two of "stranger things" may also give some ideas - I'm pretty sure that's set in the early 80s.

Or maybe a Michael J. Fox a la Back the Future? jeans and a puffy orange vest (and IIRC, his hair wasn't that long... not buzz cut, but not a mullet either).

Yes the judging my parenting on so many things over the years has left me just full of anxiety.

Thank you for the ideas. I appreciate all of them. I might have to go all neon lol. I wish i had been goven more time to prepare.

Dd said that if i only had a sewing machine than i could have used all the old jeans that dont fit anyone anymore and made shirts....omg.

Growing Pains is another mid 80’s tv show. If you google gettyimages dot com then by the various programs, 1000’s of pictures are available.

Good luck! 😱

80's girl here, lol. Wayfarer shades or aviator shades, windbreaker type jacket and white or light colored tshirt, tucked in and tennis shoes, preferably white. Watch movies like Top Gun or the Breakfast Club for ideas.

I absolutely hated this shit when they were little. In middle school they really didn't do it. In high school I gave them a $20 and sent them to the thrift store and said use your imagination.

I also think that engaging in a few days is enough everyday is asking a lot for most families.

While i think its ok to dress up and have fun once in a while this shit seems to be constant at this school.

I'm sorry but i have kids who have trouble reading. If i had known they would be doing more spirit day shit than actual learning, i would have kept them home and done fucking home learning period! Lord knows i do enough damn work with them at home.

DS will continue to be passed into the next grade while having a reading level of half that grade!

WTF is wrong with the educational system...

I wanted a day to rest. Scrambled like mad yesterday to get everything done (chores, laundry) since the area hydro was being shut down today for maintenance. Today i wanted a damn day of rest and i have had nothing but headaches. Boys have lost their ties. Fucking little bastards can't just leave shit IN THEIR GOD DAMN DRAWERS.

This mommy needs a fucking vacation!

Well shit today was a total bust.

I couldn't even get the girls hair all 80's.

Just getting the kids to get up, get dressed and get lunches made was hell.....

We do not do Mondays well at all.

At least the rest of the week is covered minus the boys ties. Those have flown the coop. No clue where they ended up.
