Hey smy glad to see you posting.

Also happy that you're taking the meds (and some weed lol).

Not sure what to think about the seizures. Gotta be horrible and scary. Hopefully the testing will come up with answers for you.

Still saying prayers and sending you mojo.

I must admit I had no clue about these machines so I looked them up and oh god...they look like instruments of torture. I did see there are ones designed for side sleepers, back sleepers even face sleepers but couldn't see anything that suggests what to do if you're a restless sleeper who does ask of the above!

I have no idea what I'd do. I couldn't adapt to an oxygen mask after a major operation. Hell, I even hated the feeling of a silk eyemask I tried using when I worked nightshift at one point in my life.

I hope you find something that works so both of you can get the rest you need.

As for the break, if you've still got some swelling or bruising try applying some arnica. It's a topical treatment, just make sure to get some that's high grade. It's a homeopathic remedy that works!

If it means anything, I found the lowest pressure entirely too much, and I found the smallest mask to be oppressive.

But my apnea is mild, and no seizure. If my life were at risk, I think I'd take the risk, though I think I'm a little older than SMY.

But the risk isn't just death. I believe the bigger risk is stroke, which means potential fo a terribly lowered quality of life and a terribly increased demand on my W and bank account.

So I hope SMY can find a way through this.

I was able to find a ear, Nose, Throat doc who was able to identify the actual blockage. That opened up some different options - surgery, a dental appliance, IIRC. Is a consult with an ENT doc possible. Or did it already happen?

Hi sisoon,

I think seeing an ENT is an excellent suggestion; I will contact our dentist (with whom we have a close relationship) and see if she can offer her professional advice, too.

Today's medical visit produced a referral to a neurologist and further x-rays for the arm, plus bloodwork to check Dilantin and albumin.

Now, getting smy to the specialist.....hmm

He says he will try the CPAP again tonight.

He has severe obstructive sleep apnea.

Little baby steps...

My husband loves his CPAP machine. Has used it for years. He says it saved his life. I tried and tried to use mine and it does not help me. If you can’t sleep because of it it’s not doing any good. I highly recommend you get a recliner and sleep in that. I had a torn rotator cuff years ago and my doctor told me the most comfortable place to sleep was in the recliner. I have slept in it since then and I don’t have sleep apnea as long as I sleep there. If yours is from a throat closure it works. If it’s like my husband whose brain forgets to tell him to breathe then you need that apnea machine.

When things go wrong, don’t go with them. Elvis

The respiratory therapist told me to put it on during no sleep time for a half hour a day everyday...while watching TV, doing homework, etc. I was to increase the time gradually to over an hour within 2-3 weeks. It's supposed to help you get conditioned to wearing it. When I am able to sleep with it on, which is most nights now, it is easier. But some nights, I just dont feel like dealing with it. Kwim. If he's willing, maybe this will help him adjust to sleeping with it. I still can't sleep on my back with the damn thing on, but on my side I'm good now.

Hi StillLivin,

What you described is exactly what the CPAP rep suggested to smy back in July!

Maybe now he will try it during the day while watching his favourite Pickers episodes.

..

Guilty...as charged!!

Reading about so many other people having to deal with this machine is 'eye opening'

It's a bit mind-boggling to think my brain could forget to remember to breathe while I'm sleeping...forfucksakes

...but the thoughts of dying have NOT been in my wheelhouse until recently....so, could dying in my sleep be better than wasting away alone in some old age home, sitting in a soiled diaper at 97??? Hmmmmmmm?

Never gave it much thought ...before now.

Wearing the mask during the day is possible but not probable. Can't talk, can't eat, can't drink, can't move ...you get the idea...

The whole thing is a Royal pain in the arse!

But....I really, really want to thank everyone who responded with their knowledge and experiences and sympathy for our situation.

The brotherhood/sisterhood that exists here at SI is unparalleled.

Still waiting for MRI results.. will let youzall know.

MRI results normal.

Still awaiting appointment with neurologist.

Arm is healing but complaining of pain; arm is weak. No doubt, he has frozen shoulder (BTDT myself 3 times with torn rotator cuff).

All in all, it's been a very stressful summer and continues to be.

Thanks to all for your continued support and advice!
