Hey, a good one is "Staying True" by Jenny Sanford. I thought to myself, whaaat? But she captures the very joy of the best of her marriage and very gently works her way through the awful stuff.

I didn't think I would like it - but I thought it was very good.

Also good - "It Happens All The Time" (or maybe "Every Day") - just something I found on my Kindle list. About a woman whose husband skated on her. Very clear-eyed, simple story of what happened to her. Sort of a journal gone book. I liked that too.

I read Jenny Sanford's book on my recent cruise. I gave it to another lady, who read it and loved it. She gave it to her daughter who is going to pass it on to her friends at home.

I just finished David Balducci's "A Simple Truth." I have a routine; I read a thriller, follow it with a drama. I'm listening to Barbara Delinsky's "The Secret Between Us" on my iPod in the car while driving to and from work.

I'm completely out of personal/fun books right now ((basement flood... lost 17 'Med - Lrg' boxes of books, and 10 'book boxes' Sheesh... maybe 1500 books? I managed to save about 20)) Sigh. So I've only got "work" books right now. Which are still great and all... don't get me wrong... but they're not old friends to curl up with. And let's face it, as exciting as work is... deadlines just seem to take the sparkle off of things.

Currently:

Adult

- Illiad (one of the more recent translations)

- The Peloponnesian War : Donald Kagan

- The History of the World ; Issac Asimov

Kids

- Black Ships Before Troy : Rosemary Sutcliff

- The Wanderings of Odysseus ; Rosemary Sutcliff

- Wise Guy : The life & philosophy of Socrates ; MD Usher

- Archimedes & the Door of Science ; Jeanne Bendick

- The Story of Science : Archimedes Leads the Way ; Joy Hakim

- Every applicable book or pub around Ancient Greece by DK, NatGeoSoc, British Museum, etc.

Been working my way through Diana Gabaldon's Highlander series since just after Yule - I've read them several times, but I bought them all in paperback for myself as a gift!

I'm currently on A Breath of Snow and Ashes. I'll borrow An Echo in the Bone when I'm done this one.

I firmly believe that reading should be fun- life is complicated enough. None of that Oprah book club no happy ending crap! (And I am a teacher who also works part time in a bookstore ) Just finished "Are you there Vodka, its me Chelsea" he-lare-e-us. Now reading J.D. Robb's new one.

Right now I am reading Mercy but Jodi Picoult.

I am a big fan of her books usually but this one A- is trigger city and B- just isnt that good. Im gonna battle though it though- only about 100 pages left.

Then I am going to start Mystic River. After reading Shutter Island I wanted to read another of Denis Lehane's books. I never saw the movie so I picked this one.

Outliers

How does this compare to Gladwell's other books? I'm a big Tipping Point, but I thought Blink was just okay.

Split (memoir on divorce)

I thought this was a very good book.

She packed up her potential and all she had learned and headed out to change a few things.

I can't compare Outliers to any of his other books as I haven't read them. I do want to pick up What the Dog saw though.

The only other book somewhat similar to this was "The stuff of Thought"...Steve Pinkerton is the author I think (don't have book in front of me and I am horrible at remembering names)

Blink and Tipping Point...what is the topic of those books?

"The Tipping Point" is pretty much about how small things can lead to big changes. And "Blink" is about making decisions in the blink of an eye rather than thinking deepy before making a decision.
