I am "owned" by 5 cats, 2 of whom will undoubtedly go over the Rainbow Bridge this year (one is 17 and I had to put her sister down last month; the other is 16.5 yrs. and has hyperthyroid). However, I am a total animal person. Formerly had 3 dogs, and am considering getting one again when the 2 fragile cats are gone. Used to own 2 goats, Wilbur and Stella. I have 11 bird feeders in the fenced portion of the backyard, and a small waterfall and pond for them to drink and play/bathe in. Feed the German shepherd-sized old groundhog under my large shed carrots and grapes. Feed the ratsnake under the mulberry tree dead voles when the cats get them. Basically, if a critter is in my yard, it gets fed!

Be careful what you wish for the most - you may get it.

Woundedwidow, you sound like my kind of person. I like outdoor feeders and when I lived around a lot of wildlife, it wasn't uncommon for me to put things out for foxes, etc. I love nothing more than to sit and wait for things to sneak out for the food I left.

Thren - About the cat's and the pig - Well lets just say my old cat had no interest in doing anything to the pig. When we got our Minnie last fall didn't even cross our minds.....Until one day I looked at his cage and she was sitting in it, like she belonged there too. Now we keep a lid on his cage, lol. She still likes to stalk him, and will paw at him when he is eating. I have NO doubt she would do what comes naturally to him if given the opportunity.

A word of caution about dogs and guinea pigs too. I had the horrifying experience of coming home at lunchtime to a scene of carnage--one or both of my dogs (a mastiff and a Belgian sheepdog) knocked over the cage and ravaged the poor piggie All I found was a pelt.

Neither of these two had ever attached ANYTHING prior and to this day I don't know who was the culprit, if it was indeed only one of them.

I'm a dog- and cat-lover. My shepherd-Lab mix is Truman. He's also my personal trainer. My gray tabby is Phineas, and my calico is Chloe. I like each of them far more than I like most humans.

I'll post pics when I'm on the right computer.

2 dogs, 2 cats. I could have many more of each, but only if I could live where the cats could be outdoor cats because I am no fan of the litter box.

And I want some chickens. And I'd really like a goat. I love goats. And maybe a cow. My dad had a pet cow growing up, so maybe I could have a cow, too.

Animal lover here too I hope I'm not hogging the thread by adding some pics.

Stella my 11 year old female English Mastiff, who is still going strong.

I adopted two Enlish Mastiff puppies from the humane society last year. They are a year old now.

Max a GIGANTIC male who is as sweet as can be. Here with his littermate sister at a playdate.

Maggie who is just naughty enough to be cute as a bug. Here with the same sister at our "playdate". Maggie is in the background.

I also raise horses. These are their "barn" names. They also have fancy paper names.

Jammer, my retired American Saddlebred chestnut broodmare age 25. Mommy to three fabulous babies. Here she is with BabyJam as a baby.

Tess my 9 yo Black National Show Horse (1/2 Saddlebred & 1/2 Arabian) Broodmare. Here she is with Lucky, flashing by! lol!!

Summer my 6 yo Chestnut American Saddlebred broodmare & 1/2 sister to Jammer.

Charlie my 6yo Palomino 1/2 Arabian 1/2 QH Multiple National & Reserve Champion cutting horse. Charlie is a girl. Here she is at last years National championship. No, that's not me.

BabyJam is one of Jammer's baby's. She is a 5yo Bay National Show Horse 1/2 Arab English Pleasure Horse. Here she is all grown up. Nope, still not me.

SugarJam is a 4yo Black Bay National Show Horse 1/2 Arabian English Pleasure Horse and full sister to BabyJam.

AJ is a 3 yo dark bay National Show Horse Gelding. He is still in the pasture. He's going to training this fall. But he looks like he will also be an English Pleasure Horse.

Lucky is a 2 yo Black National Show Horse gelding who is a Western Pleasure Prospect. He is also still in the pasture. Still a baby. Both AJ & Lucky in the pasture. AJ on the right and Lucky on the left. This was taken yesterday.

I always had dogs until right before the A/D, when I got a cat from the HS. He has been my boon companion. He is very affectionate.

I still love dogs, but they take more care than I'm willing to give these days. My kitty has an automatic litter box and feeder - I don't have to rush home to let him out. I can leave him home alone some on the weekends and he is fine.

When I vacation, I have someone come to the house once a day to check on him and give him love. That would not be possible with a dog.

I'm more a cat person but I love dogs too. H is most definitely a dog person. Currently we have one of each.

Fuzzybutt (Fuzz for short) is my 10 year old grey cat. Grumpy ole bastard with everyone but me.

Roxy is our rescue. She's part shepard, part beagle and part who knows what else. She's a mutt. Since we got her she's done a complete turn-around from how she was at the shelter. From being very wary, not looking at anyone and tail between the legs to a full on attention whore.
